Just Purchased Applause on eBay - Help, by jnschicago on Sept 10, 2008 18:08:42 GMT 1, Hi. I just purchased a mint condition Applause (unsigned) on the bay for 640 pounds. I feel good about the purchase price. Agree?
Also, I want to confirm prov. The buyer says he is the original buyer and is listed with POW. And, he says he has the till receipt.
Please advise. What steps should I take to confirm prov as much as possible?
Thanks.

Just Purchased Applause on eBay - Help, by curiousgeorge on Sept 10, 2008 18:12:20 GMT 1, Very best option would be to get the seller to agree to meet at POW, getting it checked and then completing the transaction
Good luck

Just Purchased Applause on eBay - Help, by stuey09 on Sept 10, 2008 18:13:16 GMT 1, Price is fine. If he is the original owner then you can email PoW with his details and they'll confirm his purchase of this print. Further than that, contact Pest Control.
I would advise that you retain his receipt as well as a copy of an email from him to you documenting its sale.
Nice print, enjoy it.

Just Purchased Applause on eBay - Help, by ricosg11 on Sept 10, 2008 18:14:33 GMT 1, best to handle this before you commit to buy. As a seller, it is very annoying and unprofessional to start asking questions after you make a commitment

spot on rico. if i was told to hold one after someone had won it at that price i'd be tempted to relist!

Just Purchased Applause on eBay - Help, by jnschicago on Sept 10, 2008 18:34:07 GMT 1, It's not practical for anyone involved to officially confirm prov before a winning bid is placed. Imagine if Dora was bombarded with emails from everyone who was "interested" in bidding. Or, a face to face meeting was scheduled with every "interested" buyer.
All I'm doing is verifying the prov. Assuming it checks out, payment will be made promptly. To suggest that this is anything other than straightforward is silly.

Just Purchased Applause on eBay - Help, by redfred on Sept 10, 2008 18:49:07 GMT 1, Cheers Graham, but its still a lottery regarding how long it takes, and if I had sold at that price I wouldnt be too happy waiting around for payment, I think if its a reliable seller you just need to take the risk, I cant see somebody going to the trouble of forging something as big as Applause for ยฃ650

Uh oh....may not be all bad though. That price is a good one! Too good to be true? Let us know how you get on (and good luck with it).
Lovely print btw. it's massive too!

Just Purchased Applause on eBay - Help, by nickodey on Sept 10, 2008 19:53:11 GMT 1, All questions regarding provenance and ownership should have been asked first. Only when you were 100% happy with with answers you got you should commit to buy. There is nothing more annoying than when you sell something and then buyer starts asking things they should have asked first. The new feedback system on ebay does not help in this situation! If you were were not happy with his feedback do not bid!!!!

Just Purchased Applause on eBay - Help, by redfred on Sept 10, 2008 20:06:56 GMT 1, Try ringing Dora with the sellers details and explain the situation, ask her if she can check to see if the details match the regestered owner and confirm over the phone. Only done it by e-mail myself but its worth a try!

Just Purchased Applause on eBay - Help, by jnschicago on Sept 10, 2008 20:08:01 GMT 1, Why does this board have so many righteous people on it?
I just made a purchase on eBay. Everything looks good. I have every intention of paying the seller. I'm simply looking for tips from experienced buyers to ensure that I'm buying genuine art.
As I've already said, officially confirming prov (i.e. meeting at POW or emailing Dora) before making a bid is simply not practical for anyone involved. Dora would be receiving dozens of emails about the exact same piece of art. That's silly. But thanks for your 2 cents nickodey.

Just Purchased Applause on eBay - Help, by viperuk on Sept 10, 2008 20:08:14 GMT 1, I disputed a print through ebay when the seller failed to send through the receipt/prov etc and then went on holiday, I raised a dispute and the money was taken from the seller. They soon sent the requested details and by this time I had taken the print to pow to get checked out. When all was received I closed the dispute and all was good.

As a seller i would tell them to fuck right off unless they were to pay my expenses and for my time. As the original buyer of the print from source what more prov could they want?

If they are zero rated and it did turn out to be dodgy you will be covered to about ยฃ150 of the value of the print

If you use your credit card rather than bank account your cc company will reimburse you 100% in the case of fraud.
Re Dora I am still waiting for a reply re a print I emailed her during the auction and have subsequently received it with its original receipt!

You can pay using paypal, but have it charge your credit card rather than draw the cash from your bank account directly so the answer is lots! ;D
