Keeping Import Taxes to a minimum for friend in EU, by barrychuckle on Oct 22, 2024 12:34:53 GMT 1, Anyone got any top tips?
Will probably send DHL, you can't put it at cost value as insurance is tied to the amount you value the item at.
Are there any codes that work better than others?
Will it skip customs if it's marked 'Gift' (seems unlikely!)
Cheers!

Keeping Import Taxes to a minimum for friend in EU, by Monkey on Oct 22, 2024 13:20:51 GMT 1, I'd recommend declaring it as a lithography (5.5% tax) and still declare some decent value (500e) That'll make it 25e. Worked every single time for me.

Keeping Import Taxes to a minimum for friend in EU, by its all about me on Oct 22, 2024 15:30:06 GMT 1, Be careful about DHL insurance. Artworks are often listed under the 'exclusions' list. Check the small print if insurance is important to you. If they are not going to pay out if damaged then you might as well enter a low value price on the customs form.
Whether it's a 'gift' or 'commercial goods' doesn't make any difference to import charges unless it's a very low value (around £35, I think).

Keeping Import Taxes to a minimum for friend in EU, by Atom Gallery on Oct 27, 2024 23:46:24 GMT 1, good advice from 'its all about me', I looked into sending a print flat and rang up the courier who had said on the website that artwork was not covered, turned out it was but all needed to be photographed as it was being packed to prove the quality of packing and anything flat had to have I think 10cm packing all round so a print would be in a parcel of at least 20cm by the dimensions of the print. I wouldnt send by royal mail depending on the destination country as they will be finishing the delivery, most postal services are pretty poor in comparison to the Royal Mail believe it or not, speaking about Italy France Spain and US in particular.
