Katherine Bradford New Limited Edition , by Fuzzyduck121 on Feb 8, 2024 14:40:55 GMT 1, pricing on these and the unique monotypes that were sent out for preorders earlier in the week are utterly mental
Primary galleries dont seem to have woken up yet to the state of the market
wont take too much longer until they get the message

Katherine Bradford New Limited Edition , by its all about me on Feb 8, 2024 14:42:04 GMT 1, 3.5K for that? Seriously? I think someone is taking the p*ss.
If you did that at art college you would be laughed off campus.

Katherine Bradford New Limited Edition , by Fuzzyduck121 on Feb 8, 2024 14:47:21 GMT 1, I dont think the quality of the work, which is subjective is relevant.
The issue is that primary galleries seem totally delusional about secondary pricing
you cannot sell work at source for twice what it sells for on the secondary market and expect to generate cash
I dont think any gallery has actually figured this out, or they wont accept that their profit calculations are way way off
eventually reality takes over
same for any business model

Katherine Bradford New Limited Edition , by Criminal Mischief on Feb 8, 2024 16:32:56 GMT 1, When you get into the higher quality print shops, oftentimes $5k-7k is very common, making this on the lower end comparatively. I once spoke to a friend who was partner at a reputable print shop who told me unless a print is $3,500 or higher a lot of major collectors and institutions wouldn't even consider it. I agree that it's high, but comparatively, thousands of us happily spent exactly that amount on mass-produced open edition glitter butterflies by Damian Hirst.
When you look specifically at Katherine Bradford's market, you see people trying to re-sell digital prints of hers for this price (if you don't understand the difference between a digital print and an 8-color litho then you should educate yourself on printmaking before collecting). And the original painting this print is based on sold for $140k a few months ago (https://www.phillips.com/detail/katherine-bradford/NY010523/323) so, the pricing doesn't seem that outrageous to me.

Katherine Bradford New Limited Edition , by LJCal on Feb 8, 2024 20:32:29 GMT 1, Her last edtions were like $1000 a few years back they were even less. This isn't worth $3500. I'd pay $1500 max and I'm a fan of her work, used to own a couple of paintings of hers before she went crazy.

Katherine Bradford New Limited Edition , by amputeerich on Feb 8, 2024 22:37:05 GMT 1, I love the works and was lucky enough to have a conversation with KB on IG about them but they’re just too expensive. Would love one of the unique ones but just cannot justify that sum of money in this market. Would be tempted by a litho but again they’re wildly overpriced. The colours are gorgeous though and her stock only seems to be rising.

Katherine Bradford New Limited Edition , by Sunny Garcia on Feb 9, 2024 15:39:08 GMT 1, She's great!
Listen, the art market doesn't make much sense. Not that long ago editions for these types of artists (everyone who's not real blue chip) were a couple hundred bucks. People flipped the shit out of them for a few years, and more publishers came to the table.
Now, they all think thousands for an edition is completely reasonable. I've tried to talk to a few galleries (White Cube being one) about this actually, and they don't seem to care.
At least the Condos are less than double these 🤣🥴

Katherine Bradford New Limited Edition , by Fuzzyduck121 on Feb 9, 2024 15:57:00 GMT 1, Galleries like to make all the profit themselves that's literally all this is
Unfortunately greed by its very nature knows no bounds so it was inevitable they would push the margins too far the other way
That is what's now happening
Whitecube a prime example sat on a fuck load of stuff, the issue is this;
Lets say you sell an edition of 50 Julie Curtiss for a greedy horrible price and as a gallery you are trying to scalp people and you end up selling one at 10k, you have 49 left, you cannot sell a single one for much less or the guy who paid 10k is going to be very annoyed, as is the artist. Hence they bury their heads and wait for the market to turn.
I say good luck to them, they will be waiting a looooooong time
