Urban Art Store, by Urban Art Store on Jul 1, 2024 18:54:23 GMT 1, Hi all
I have been thankful enough to be chosen to run the 2025 London Marathon for Shelter.
Raising money whilst everyone is going through a cost of living crisis.
So, as a way to help raise money for a worthy cause, we have decided to donate all of the commission raised on the art we sell through our website. The amount of commission we charge to artists is no a high amount so will need to sell lots to achieve our £2000 target.
My ask of this forum is to please take a look at our website and if interested in buying something, please contact me first.
To ensure we are transparnet, we will sell the piece to you at the lower amount and you donate through our Just Giving page, link below.
We are also collecting art from artists who have kindly donated and if there are any artists on here who wish to donate a piece that would be gratefully appreciated.
For those not in the UK, Shelter is:
Story
The housing crisis is a national emergency. Right now, thousands of people are trying to get by without a safe place to call home.
We believe that a safe home is a fundamental need and basic moral right. Our team of amazing TCS London Marathon runners are joining the fight for home by fundraising to support families and individuals facing homelessness. Because home is everything.
Shelter has helped me and others I know and are a charity who are needed for those who need a home and those that are in need of a decent home!
Thank you for reading!
Best Wishes
Lee

I always appreciate people giving it a crack in the art world, but I think it's been said previously that you should start these threads with a description of the artist, his practice, his work, and why the work might be important / meaningful. I also Googled his guy and he doesn't seem to have a public presence aside from the DJ, so this info is super important

Urban Art Store, by Urban Art Store on Aug 17, 2024 7:50:07 GMT 1, Who is BRT:
BRT is a dynamic Graffiti pop artist born in London in the 70's, when misunderstood graffiti started showing up on walls, with the breakdancing hip hop culture becoming mainstream.
All these influences combined to ignite his imagination, bringing his work straight back to the street of which inspired him.
Drawing on his passion for urban style and vibrant colour tones, BRT aims to revitalise the vision of urban space onto canvas and inspire people through his captivating works.
Each piece is unique and a reflection of the artist's charm, personality and love . Whether painting on canvas, walls or reflections on culture, BRT’s work is as refreshing and dynamic as it is powerful.
Through his hand painted unique style, using multiple layers of acrylic and spray paint , BRT strives to present the world with a new perspective on his beloved concept of Street Pop art.
We have a range of his work for only £65.
Please goto our website for more information.

Urban Art Store, by met on Aug 18, 2024 17:14:48 GMT 1, Who is BRT: BRT is a dynamic Graffiti pop artist born in Lon don in the 70's, when misunderstood graffiti started showing up on walls, with the breakdancing hip hop culture becoming mainstream. Preface
It could help to mention that speaking to people in a straightforward manner is my preferred way of communicating.
Despite the far greater risk of causing offence, the objective is to treat others as peers. As equals.
This, as opposed to relying on euphemisms (and therefore on language that is unclear or imprecise). In other words, as opposed to treating grownups like children — on the assumption they would otherwise get defensive or stroppy, because they lack the mental resilience of normal adults.
We frequently seek to minimise awkwardness, to spare hurt feelings. Pleasantries are very handy in this respect; they can serve as a social balm. And while generally well‑intentioned, they do also come at a cost:
Honesty is dilluted or sacrificed. Truth itself can become a casualty.
__________
With the above now addressed, I would posit the following:
(A) you lack a good eye for art, at least more often than not; and
(B) you have poor judgement, which has been evidenced on this platform on multiple occasions.
These factors will likely have been detrimental to Urban Art Store. Both to its bottom line and its reputation.
On this occasion, for example, you may have thought, "Let's give BRT a chance and add him to our roster. What's the worst that could happpen? If the sales are too few or non‑existent, we'll just move on to other artists."
However, what might not have been taken into account is the wider impact that kind of decision can have.
Championing second or even third‑degree, derivative work, like this Mr Brainwash‑style nonsense by BRT, invites the marketplace to dismiss your gallery as one that really doesn't know what it's doing.
Credibility gets destroyed in an instant. Earlier doubt, which might have been present among some clients, ceases to exist — along with any benefit of such doubt they previously gave to the gallery.
This then undermines whatever else the business might be involved in. And by association, it taints other artists who are connected to Urban Art Store.
__________
Below is the best unsolicited advice I am capable of offering here:
Especially for reasons (A) and (B) above, you do not appear to have what it takes to be a successful solo gallerist.
It might therefore be worth cutting your losses and focusing your efforts elsewhere.
In my view, plodding on regardless would come with a high probability of the business experiencing a protracted demise over the next two or three years. An expensive, rather miserable, slow death by increment.
In case you nevertheless wish to persevere, there is a separate option where the gallery would seem less likely to become a black hole into which energy and money continue to be poured, for minimal return:
Join forces with a partner — someone who may not have the seed capital to start their own gallery, but who has the requisite commercial astuteness, curatorial vision, discernment and expertise to take a front‑of‑house lead. This would include them putting together a talented and cohesive roster of artists for primary market sales.
If personal passion means you wish to have a more active role than that of a mere investor in the business, your skills are possibly better suited to the back‑office administration and logistics side of running a gallery: accounts, procurement, packaging, shipping, etc.
__________
Given my status as a random stranger on the internet, you will of course need to weigh up whether the assessments in this post:
(i) have been expressed in good faith;
(ii) are reasonable and fair;
(iv) have some merit, given the circumstances; and
(iii) are worth taking on board, or should instead be ignored.
Good luck with whichever path you choose to pursue.
