Banksy help from the Forum, by murso500 on Mar 28, 2023 23:20:19 GMT 1, Trying to work out the location my print was purchased back in 2005. Hoping some old heads can remember.
I left a job in April 2005 and my boss at the time purchased me the Love Rat print as a leaving gift. Must have been 50quid at the time. But obviously now worth much more. It has a POW stamp and is numbered and looking to get it certified by Pest Control but they need more info about where it was purchased after knocking back my previous application.
So worded if any of you might recall which galleries sold his work at the time- my old boss either can’t remember or isn’t willing to divulge.
I thought it was a print shop (maybe K2?) that used to be at the bottom end of Berwick St. I vaguely remember there was one selling street art prints next to the market in the row of shops that’s since be demolitions and rebuilt.
I enquired with another colleague and they thought it was in a shop more towards Shaftesbury/Tottenham Court Rd way. (See map attached). Not sure how reliable that info is. Santa’s Ghetto was only on in December for a month so it wasn’t that.
Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Banksy help from the Forum, by Happy Shopper on Mar 28, 2023 23:42:36 GMT 1, Tom Tom Gallery (Before it became Art Republic)
Although not sure what good knowing the name of galleries will do, without a receipt.

Banksy help from the Forum, by Lunch Special on Mar 29, 2023 1:30:35 GMT 1, They would have the original purchasers name no? I mean that’s what they did and still do.
If so you should know your bosses name and where he came from

Banksy help from the Forum, by Jules Leotard on Mar 29, 2023 6:10:30 GMT 1, They would have the original purchasers name no? I mean that’s what they did and still do. If so you should know your bosses name and where he came from This whole line of thinking is absurd to me. I'm not picking on you, Lunch Special, but in general regarding POW, PCO, etc. and the barbs and daggers directed at them. Before 'Banksy' was a big thing, they were peddling screen prints at 50 quid each. I am pretty sure you could go into a record store and buy a shitey poster (high-end) for that price. Fast forward 20 years and everyone is aghast that perfect records weren't kept by a bunch of late-20's/ early 30 year olds over a 50 quid transaction. I would guess that PCO does their best, but expectations over records that old when no one at the time saw all of this coming, well, it is a bit unrealistic.

Banksy help from the Forum, by dotdot on Mar 30, 2023 15:25:16 GMT 1, interesting thread op.
your boss bought it , right ?
your boss will have an idea why they bought it and the name of the shop... might not remember everything but they'd have seen it enough times to know the name of the shop and ... dare i say it be able to locate something with the name of it on.
(btw the council *may* have the names of all business who went through one location - for a relatively long period)
i think the shop you mention did exist - was it in anyway known to pow ? that might be another matter.
it may also point you in the direction of the reason for their questions... they're becoming forensic now. ..and we all know why.
please keep us posted.

Banksy help from the Forum, by Charlie Bronson on Mar 30, 2023 16:17:11 GMT 1, PC is so strange. The last print I had to verify with them was one I bought off an acquaintance 12 years ago. Only proof I had was a handwritten invoice(if you want to call it that). Cert was issued, rightfully so.
Point being what good would their knowing where it was bought almost 20 years ago be, if the vendor is no longer around? It’s not like there would be records if the vendor has shut down. Not knocking you, simply pointing out the strangeness that is PC. Good luck in your quest for a cert; that’s very frustrating.
