New David Choe - 'Silent Dance', by Heavyconsumer on Apr 12, 2008 5:33:43 GMT 1, I'm shocked at the reception this is getting. I felt that this is his strongest image for quite a while and think it's my favourite of his, with the possible exception of Citygirl. I think this is a classic print and I'm looking forward to deciding how to hang this and Hoppers as a pair!

New David Choe - 'Silent Dance', by Heavyconsumer on Apr 12, 2008 7:05:25 GMT 1, Skelly, I prefer this to 2 of those, the exception being the blue backgrounded piece. I honestly think this piece displays a lot more depth of thought and execution than say the recent London Girl print which was a pretty mindless rehash of a previous image (imo). In fact I was very disappointed with all his recent show-prints and the new direction he's taken with this image puts him back on the innovation map imo. I respect that you might just not like it, but I personally find it quite a refreshing change in direction.

Its not a new image. Though I wasnt happy with the print selection from the UK show I did like some of the originals very much.

New David Choe - 'Silent Dance', by Heavyconsumer on Apr 12, 2008 8:24:39 GMT 1, Fair enough you're quite right, I worded that comment poorly. I was aware there was a series of these tree images on canvas. I meant that his choice of image to put to print was a refreshing change after the latest print offerrings throught Lazerides. I could have worded that better or just chopped some of it out! I am enthusiatic about this piece in a way that I wasn't at all about the last 4 prints, I think that's the key point I wish to make. I wish I could have visited the show at Laz, I'm told there were some lovely originals and saw some nice photos. There were a few pieces I saw that looked a little below par but others that looked like they would have been pretty special up close. Back to this print though, I can't see why anyone would think it "poor" quality art. I'm interested to see some more opinions on it. I already have one on hold until I can sort non-paypal payment with them. I'm going into debt for it, which I would only do for something I feel is very special!

New David Choe - 'Silent Dance', by pezlow on Apr 12, 2008 8:35:22 GMT 1, I'm not a buyer for this because I already have too much art and too little money. But I really like it, I think some of recent anti-choe reaction has got more to do with the non-flippability of his recent prints, rather than the quality of his art. Some of the stuff at the laz show really was exceptional.

New David Choe - 'Silent Dance', by craigf on Apr 12, 2008 8:43:02 GMT 1, Still available, which is nice as I'd forgotten about this release ;D
That said I'm not going to pull the trigger. I would have liked a tree print more like Harveyn's prayer tree rather than lots of tree trunks. I'm probably missing some key message and may even regret this in the future, but there are other Choe's higher on my list

I do agree with Pezlow re this. I enjoyed the Laz show, would have bought some of the cheaper non erotic originals I got myself a London City Girl, really liked the Dokebi (but had to limit myself to one only)
I am happy prices have stabilished a la Micallef as I want some of the early prints that I was too slow to click buy now on ;D

New David Choe - 'Silent Dance', by giiiant on Apr 12, 2008 9:39:01 GMT 1, it's not even going to sell out in the first 2 days....so you can relax, get some sleep, order in the morning. overpriced/overhyped.
Overpriced, maybe, but overhyped? There's been a sever lack of 'buzz' about this release, especially when you consider how good it is. Would be a completely different story if you could still make a profit out of his work.
