I’d like to add a David Shrigley to my collection. I’m trying to understand pricing here. New prints when released seem to go around 1k? But then there are prints in his shop at 3k+. Why the premium?

Missed the limited unsigned prints. Anything else out there I should consider to dip my toes in?

Originals? Are they sold anywhere?

Usually they’ll sell the first 50-100 out of a 125 edition for a reduced price. These are allocated through lottery. This year the price has been between 1500-2000€ and then they keep a few that they’re selling at a premium of 3000-3500€ ish.
In this segment it’s usually the animal motives, screen printed and signed and numbered.
I’ve seen originals show up on auctions, usually not that much higher in price, but usually not the best motifs either.
Then you have the black on white prints. Usually just text. These are cheaper and usually still available at source.

- There are lotterys where you maybe pick a shrigley up for around 1800 pounds (like the banane recently + shipping).
- Also at drops like the one in london in 2 days, you get the possibilty to get a shrigley for 1800 pounds (first 100 and 2500 for the last 25). But you need to be there in person and better be early - if you join the que 2 hours before they sell them you probably dont get one.
- Sometimes they come online for 1800 pound the first Tier, 2500 second tier (or 2200) and 3t tier 3000 and AP 3900 - for example. There you need to be very quick to get your hands on a Shrigley for cheap.

Or you buy one from Jealous Gallery, Schaefer Grafik or Shrigshop (there are others too sometimes).

You have posters (40-50€ original price) - Linocuts (Black/white limited to 100 for around 1000€ at Schaefer Grafik and smaller size) - or Editions of 125 (in color price range of above) - or one of ones but you usually need to ask at gallerys and they wont give it to you if they dont know you.

Last option should be the secondary market if you look for special kind of shrigley that you like.
Sothebys, phillips, tate ward for auction, newarteditions for fix price, ebay for auction and fixprice, or probably the cheapest option in forums like this.

Don't bother buying the prints or buying anything on the secondary market. Contact Anton Kern gallery to see if they have originals. A year or two ago the prices were not much more than what people are paying for the prints and maybe even less. He's prolific so they shouldn't cost too much.

when I was going through the payment the total changed to 1850 so I didn't t buy

Is there that much of a difference in getting it at 1550 GBP? (what i mean is that you can still get a Shrigley at pretty cheap at 1850, no?)

Just spoke to Jealous first tier was £1850 and second tier is £2500

if you like it 300 is not much difference but if you are not sure that help in not buying it, he is very prolific so I might be happier on buying an image I like more with next release.
