RIP John Dolan of George the dog fame, by Pete the Post on Oct 22, 2022 14:45:44 GMT 1, Very sad to report the passing of John Dolan, street artist and fixture of the streets of Shoreditch. He sadly passed away yesterday after medical complications over the last few weeks.
He received a lot of support from the forum when he broke into the street art scene with his city scapes, street scenes and drawings of his dog George.
He was already known in the streets of Shoreditch, when he joined Howard Griffin gallery. Where his solo shows exhibited a selection of collaboration pieces and solo works, including the drawings of George and the buildings around Shoreditch. Many of which will be with members here who rallied behind him.
He collaborated with a myriad of artists, including STIK, Thierry Noir, ROA, Broken Fingers, C215, Faith 47, MadC, Cityzen Kane, Pablo Delgado, ESPO and dozens of others.
He also wrote a biography exposing his past and his struggles with addiction, and how meeting up with his dog George added a huge positive element into his life.
He was a good friend, a wildman and a great artist. He will leave a hole in my world and in many others who got to know him.

That show was a great show and I really enjoyed chatting with John whenever I met him on the street!

It got a bit complicated when John went into hospital, but i have been assured he is fine and well and being looked after Very very well.
Me and Stik went and added to the tribute today as last nights storm demolished it. It was heartwarming to see so many people who really cared about them both. I think i put a lot of minds at rest about George, so so many people asked! And the street rumour seems to be that he is dead!!!
I can happily report that rumours of Georges demise, have been greatly exaggerated.
Version 2.0. Feel free to go add your wishes to it if your around. We left chalk etc there.

The two of them were part of shoreditch high street (either by that box or by pret) and tributes and flowers are a nice gesture.

My condolences to all who knew and loved John.
I was fortunate to live in Hackney when John had his show at HGG. It was a pleasure to meet John, and like many of you, saw John sketching George outside the Shoreditch Tube Station on many occasions.
John's Colab show with various artists was a wonderful event. Very cool to see the artistic camaraderie.
John's piece with Michael DeFeo remains a favorite among the pieces I own.

He had a bit of a mission round the police stations of london and made it to Enfield! So i went and collected him today.
So he has said goodbye to the kennels or whatever that he has been in for the five weeks or so.
He will now be looking forward to a change of pace,
Chilling by the sea.

You always helped me when i got panicked about looking after him before, and im always very grateful for that. Knowing i could ask people for help always mattered a lot since i never really had a dog previously! You also made this possible. Always figured he would probably retire down here, more than devastated its happened this way, that i didnt expect. He will always be safe here though.
He has a bit of cover, another of his friends, STIK is helping if i get stuck, and he went through a charity so it seems they are covering the costs. (im thinking i might make use of their discount and put the cost back into them, I dont want to take from the street dogs!!). So that was a pretty big relief and made it a lot easier for me. He is a well covered pooch.
He looked like he had given up when he arrived, it was heartbreaking, thought he may be broken!! He did perk up a fair bit on the train to shoreditch, and after seeing his streets and (most  ) of his people, he was a very happy boy again. I think he will be ok after a little while.
He knows where he is, he knows me, and his bed, balls and bowls etc are his from before, so i hope he will settle and at least know he is safe pretty quick.
My new black velvety sofa, yeah, thats not going to look new for long!!!
