Italian Street Artist Alo prepares for his solo show ‘Hail to the Loser’ at the Saatchi Gallery

Italian artist Alo has become a regular on London streets over the past two years. His abstract portraiture having become well known to followers of the street art scene and having already won him many admirers.

Now a show at the Saatchi Gallery represents a real breakthrough moment for the quiet artist who came to Britain in order to be at the heart of the urban art scene. Titled ‘Hail to the Loser’ he has created over 40 original works which will hang in the gallery. Starting on Tuesday 29th July 2014 it will last approximately two weeks, finally closing on 18th August. It represents a busy time for the artist who, after the launch, will then head straight to Berlin to paint two walls for the high profile Urban Nation event.

‘Hail to the Loser’ is the exhibition name for a Saatchi Gallery show by the street artist known as ALO. The exhibition included original acrylic paintings, mixed media works and sculptures focused on the human face and form. According to the artist, “I like to use shape, color and texture to describe the deeper and inner sides of human beings.”

ALO is a self-taught artist from Italy, now living in London. Saatchi Gallery cites his influences as the “German Expressionist movement, the raw simplicity and directness of art from Africa and the energy of Punk.” Combining active patterns and bold contrasts, the grid-like images are rich with vibrancy from shapes filled with dots, dashes, lines, bold colors and language.

Always like this artist and often stopped to look at street work around Shoreditch.
Had opportunities to buy for really reasonable prices and never pulled the trigger
