From today on, till August 25th, Marina Abramovic will be at Serpentine Gallery.

"In a unique work created for the Serpentine, the internationally acclaimed artist Marina Abramović will perform in the Gallery for the duration of her exhibition: 10am to 6pm, 6 days a week. Creating the simplest of environments in the Gallery spaces, Abramović’s only materials will be herself, the audience and a selection of props that she may or may not use. On arrival, visitors will both literally and metaphorically leave their baggage behind in order to enter the exhibition: bags, jackets, electronic equipment, watches and cameras may not accompany them.

The public will become the performing body, participating in the delivery of an unprecedented moment in the history of performance art. "

I saw her at the MoMo with 'the Artist is present' which was, although difficult to explain, an incredible experience and will for sure pop bye to see how this one develops.

No, I didn't have time to queue. Which I now regret big big time.

Got there at 5.45am. 8th in the queue.
Everyone in front was American... chatting about Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus, how they were likely to cry when they got inside...
One started to have a panic attack when she saw Abramovic walk into the venue at 9am.
9.30am the Guardian turns up to interview the queue.
10am Abramovic is standing behind the glass door which she opens.
We walk in. Get our hands stamped with the date.
We free ourselves of "all bags, coats and electronic items" - except for the locker key which we take in with us.
Small raised area in centre. Everyone just stands around.
Then Abramovic and 5 "helpers" (Art students dressed in black) approach people... reach for their hand (which you have to hold in a specific way) and lead you to the next room (or vice versa) and either make you stand on the raised central area or face the wall with your eyes closed. It's all done at a shuffling pace like leading the demented into a day room at a nursing home.
Abramovic (and helpers) then whisper something along the lines of "Breathe slowly... relax"... and people just stand there!  Facing the wall.  Eyes shut.  It's the final scene of the Blair Witch Project.
Some poor schmuks who were led onto the raised area at the very start stood there with their eyes closed for 2 hours! (not realising that everyone else was able to see that this was all she was doing and so didn't stay facing a wall for too long)
After an hour they brought out some chairs and started guiding people to sit on the chairs.
Incredibly boring.
No intensity.
Massively botoxed and terrible knock-knees.
Emperor's new clothes on display until 25th August.

couldn't think of anything worse than standing in a room with some sweaty art student in a polyester onesy getting too close....

yep there is no sense to make shows or exhibits in museums or galleries any more. Did you see plumbers or taxi drivers on her videos on her clip with jay-z? Only street art! this is a future.

Marina Abramovic has released a signed and numbered collector's edition book of memoirs. It is available with most online book stores, make sure to get the Hardcover signed limited edition copy though.
