I think large painting s primary at Stems show sold out at just under $100k. With Susumuβs show at Perrotin, I think Asia will embrace the work sincerely and that his prices will lift.

Needless to say I love all Susumu related works. But Iβm with you there, I was even surprised by the ask for the CS masks too.
But pricing aside, this is a great representation of his work, and the printing technique is an art form within itself. Maybe that still doesnβt justify 5k, but I consider this accessible pricing

Susumu was a great artist wayyy before he started experimenting with the poodles, and even then he was under appreciated. Most people you see flaunting works on Insta bought things on discount when galleries had trouble moving works, yet they act like they were long term supporters. Now everyoneβs worked up over pricing when they had more than enough time to acquire works at a reasonable price point.

Youβre right. It was a surprise. Artists can be uneven. To be fair, it certainly wasnβt his best painting. Far from it. Iβd say that result was more example based rather than the market itself.

Definitely a keeper. Great example of his newer style. And accessible to people that might not be able to afford an original in the newer style. Still expensive but worth it. Enjoy!
