Why Saving Banksy Means Saving Yourself - By David Choe
"Who is Banksy?
Banksy is Batman he is not Robin.
The more important question I want to know is who are you?
When you look in the mirror are you a hero, a villain, an asshole - or just a casual observer?
Super heroes as well as super villains exist in this world we live in today, although it’s not always clear who is who. About two decades ago in a small community in the city of Los Angeles called Silver Lake, a tiny gallery / bookstore was having an art show of a few thrift store paintings hung on display with army choppers and primates stenciled over them. I thought they were hilarious, but I sure as hell wasn’t going to pay the asking price of $200; I would rather just make my own (and I did). Time went on, none of the pieces had sold and the shop owner seemed a little desperate, so I used my Korean negotiation skills to talk him down to $50; although, even at $50 I felt a little cheated buying stencil art, but back then, as a starving artist myself, I was always open to supporting other starving artists so I felt good about that part. I asked who the artist was, and he said it was a fellow from across the pond in the UK who goes by the name Bank-Ski, and he was across the street. I said oh cool and went across the street and met a delightful young dark skinned chap with a slight Arabic accent, that was excited about his first art show in America, but also didn’t care much that he hadn’t sold anything and cared more about changing the environment and waking people the f**k up. The shop owner had mispronounced his name, it wasn’t Bank-ski – it was Banksy, and that would be the last time I would meet him until 10 years later with a red elephant but that’s a whole different story; He gave me a cardboard cutout stencil of a rat with a bazooka , I loved it so much I spray painted it all over koreatown until the stencil fell apart, as I looked back and realized, oh s**t I’m a Banksy! the stenciled thrift store painting which I purchased for $50 still hangs in my bathroom and is estimated at $500,000 today....."
"Banksy has created some of the most exciting and interesting art the world has seen and is one of the most important artists of our generation and you want to ruin that because you want to find out who he is? I’d rather not know and get more art. Right now expert scientists think they have uncovered the secret identity of the world’s most elusive exterior decorator Banksy, but with my expert knowledge from a lifetime of reading comic books, the hero is usually a bit cleverer and a few steps ahead of the evil super villain scientists. Banksy is in fact a very clever lad and he is most definitely a super hero. In my world, if you pit Banksy against evil scientists, as a gambling man I would pick Banksy every time. Accusing people of s**t when you don't have all the facts only propels the gossip / click bait society we’re living in today; it can ruin a perfectly innocent man’s life and reputation. So exercise restraint, ask yourself: does it really help us to know his identity? How does this serve humanity? To be anonymous so that you can affect change is a gift, it’s a choice- it’s so f**kin amazing! You’d only want to disrupt that if you were an asshole. Are you an asshole? Even though you have an asshole, being an asshole is a choice- being an asshole is an affliction that is reversible. In the end, you make the choice; you need to stop picking your asshole and pick whether or not you are an asshole. And if you realize the sad truth, that you are what you eat (an asshole), know that you can still change your ways."

Who is Banksy? The Identity of the Artist Banksy, by churchwood on Mar 10, 2016 11:00:12 GMT 1, Thanks - that was a great read.
This whole study seems to be a totally pointless exercise
Was at a gig in Bristol couple of months ago and some guy there told the American singer that he was himself indeed Banksy. The band thought it funny and admitted how much they enjoyed his work - that's kind of the point, just enjoy what there is to see as at the end of the day does it matter who made it

Who is Banksy? The Identity of the Artist Banksy, by Deleted on Mar 14, 2016 17:28:59 GMT 1, The technical and research ethics by the bods doing the study is one thing.
It seems that they do not have to prove one way or other how accurate their research is. They probably get funding or make money from it. So if it turns out their research and identity proving are wrong. Would they have egg on their face and lose credibility?

Who is Banksy? The Identity of the Artist Banksy, by Not 4 The Thril on Aug 25, 2016 0:35:40 GMT 1, ***sorry if this has been posted before. I looked but couldn't find it on here***
Just came across this video from around 1999, of Banksy painting the Southmead Boys Club.
Interesting peak into his hometown early in his career.
Watch until the very end for a spoiler in the credits .

Who is Banksy? The Identity of the Artist Banksy, by cyberkid on Oct 6, 2016 14:51:49 GMT 1, this is new. "banksy" in melbourne...
This video allegedly shows the artist Banksy spray painting a mural in Melbourne.
The video shows a man spraying the final touches on the stencilled work of Ms Hanson before he hastily makes tracks toward Flinders Street.
The camera operator then chases him down the alley and a slight scuffle ensues, in which the artist turns around and his face is captured on camera.
MELBOURNE BANKSY TOSSED AWAY BY BUILDERS IN ACDC LANE
Mia wrote on her YouTube post that she was walking down the dark alley at night when she came across the artist at work.
“So I was walking home from work late last night and I was watching a street artist doing a piece in hosier lane. I double backed and pulled out my phone as he was finishing up. Can’t believe I just met Banksy!” Mia says under the video.
A man loitering around the mural on Wednesday morning was sure it was a bona fide Banksy.
“It’s definitely an original as Banksy is in Melbourne,” a passer-by in Hosier Lane said this morning.
Banksy is famous for painting rats, and perhaps there’s a whiff of rat in the air with a video of Banksy surfacing just two days out from the opening of The Art of Banksy exhibition at Federation Square.
ICONIC STREET ART BY BANKSY DESTROYED IN PRAHRAN
“Fake, from the art, the tag, to the acting,” Nathan Joyce wrote in a YouTube comment..
Mia hasn’t responded to the Herald Sun’s requests for an interview and has not responded to questions about her video.
Watch the video and judge for yourself.

ICONIC STREET ART BY BANKSY DESTROYED IN PRAHRAN “Fake, from the art, the tag, to the acting,” Nathan Joyce wrote in a YouTube comment.. Mia hasn’t responded to the Herald Sun’s requests for an interview and has not responded to questions about her video. Watch the video and judge for yourself. christopher.talbot@news.com.au

Who is Banksy? The Identity of the Artist Banksy, by timbcs on Nov 7, 2017 19:10:23 GMT 1, Hi. I hope this doesn't offend anyone or break any rules. I know that discussions of real identities of street artists can often be controversial as I have read elsewhere, however, I don't know whether what I own is of interest or value to others.
I am an ex-school mate of Robin Gunningham at Bristol Cathedral School and I have some old A4 school magazines that feature his art.
They are a small cartoon strip (1/6 page) that he did in year 1, a line drawing (1/2 page) he did in year 3 and a full page cartoon he did in year 4.
I would really appreciate advice on whether these would likely be worth anything cos I could do with the cash!
I tried to upload photos to show what I have but kept getting errors however I will try again if anyone wants me to.
Thanks.

Who is Banksy? The Identity of the Artist Banksy, by timbcs on Nov 7, 2017 19:48:59 GMT 1, He wasn't my friend. I can't lie. I had no idea who he was. We shared the same art teachers and they were lovely! The photos should now be attached. I'd love to say the art was incredible or was a precursor to a later work. I'll leave that up to you! They certainly might be interesting!
