Phillips Art Auctions • New York, Hong Kong & London, by WILLYBKLN on Jan 22, 2015 17:30:19 GMT 1, Prices on unsigned continue to go up. Love is in the Air - £10k (£8k hammer) Happy Choppers - £5625 (£4500 hammer) Queen Victoria - £3500 (£2800 hammer) By all accounts not a bad price on the QV. Plus we need to factor in the fees of what 25-30% on top?

In parenthesis is the hammer price (where the top bid came in at auction), in front of it is the cost including buyer's premium at 25% (e.g. LIITA reached a hammer price of £8k but is £10k with buyer's premium.
This doesn't include potential VAT or collections/shipment, etc.

These were unsigned prints, whereas next week will not only be signed, but from Laz's private collection. I'm registered to bid, but I wonder if I should even bother.

And yet I wonder, does that provenance help or hurt their value? I seem to be in the minority but that is not mojo (for lack of a better word) that i want on my wall. It seems to be a constant hustle for him back when he was primary and even today, some 7 years removed.

no mojo - no good (imo) - pc is here to stay. laz on the other hand .. is ex manager if he can't get pc - then .. would you bid on it ? from hustle.. to ... your wall ?
(interestingly - from what i saw earlier, some works do have PC.. and some don't.. )
thoughts ?

I'm sorry, I did not mean to insinuate that any of those prints are not genuine or without PC. I presume all have PC and if they don't, they will get them in short order. I didn't bother checking but would be very surprised to learn they do not already have it. All I meant was that *I'm* not fond of the provenance but I have no doubts that every one of them is indeed genuine.
We all have our own opinions and collect for different reasons. Me, I try to feel a connection with an artist when I admire whatever it is on my walls as though it's a window to a time, place, feeling or whatever. Given the separation back in '08, my own biases and subsequent events like last summer's Laz/Sotheby's show, it would cast a shadow on my personal ability to enjoy the work to the fullest.

Great results on the warhols and many others, but about right on the banksy prints I would say. I was expecting the banksys to go for a lot more given how heated the market seems to be but perhaps it's cooling off a little.

are we seeing the post peak phase of the bubble ? I do hope so. smart money has come and gone.
so we have the panic of QE2 in the eurozone, flatlining growth and safe havens dumping pegs to the Euro
I daresay anyone with a substantial long holding in bnasky prints will be mulling over a dump now- I would be if I were holidng for return. we still see abberations, but the sentiment is all bear
back to the new normal. whatever that is these days.
a key will be the regular as clockwork toilet flush of another MBW release tomorrow- I dont think these will be the goldmine that they used to be.
Did I ever tell you about my proposal to create a liquid traded art index for hedging and speculative lolz? it never got off the ground, no serious takers.
/ ends bloomberg tinged post. back to the art.
