lol (please tell me that was sarcasm)
As far as this auction goes, I think it's quite a bit of rubbish... Although it's nice to see that rich people are print flippers too (the Hirsts).

Phillips Art Auctions • New York, Hong Kong & London, by snausages on Sept 4, 2009 21:06:48 GMT 1, As far as this auction goes, I think it's quite a bit of rubbish... Although it's nice to see that rich people are print flippers too (the Hirsts). You didn't have to be rich to buy those Hirsts, especially if you bought them at the initial release. But sure, I know of rich collectors who buy 100k Gursky's with the sole intention of selling it for a 1/4 mil the next year.
A lot of artists in the auction I'm not familiar with so I'll withhold judgment but mostly low end stuff, still some nice pieces, some things I might bid on.
If anyone here has some spare change I'd recommend placing a bid in on this: www.phillipsdepury.com/auctions/lot-detail.aspx?sn=UK000209&search=&p=3&order=&lotnum=135
Some of the best etchings ever made imo. I'd love to split it with someone but all my money is tied up, but if someone buys the set I'd maybe buy one
And those Mcgee etchings are insane in person, check em out if you're in london.

That's not surprising. but, I wouldn't call it "flipping." For some (or most) collectors, collecting is a form of appreciation as well as an investment. Steve Wynn, the owner of Wynn casino in Vegas, bought Le Reve for $48 million. If it weren't for his elbow, he was going to sell it for $139 million.
