NFT Art , by jimmyjam on Mar 12, 2021 20:23:29 GMT 1, So basically it was all a massive publicity stunt for NFT - the buyer is "the pseudonymous founder and financer of Metapurse, the largest NFT (unique digital assets) fund in the world"
When it comes to these novelty art sales - David Choe/physical art still wins with facebook stock. Btw, most tech people are not really the best people to be pushing art and you really should not be listening to them about investing in art. Many of these people are males who really only care about the tech world and have somewhat a childish art taste - that are extremely obsessed with sci-fi fiction / fantasy.
There is a reason why there is absolutely NO art scene in the most expensive place to live in America; the bay area/silicon valley. All the main/major LA/NYC art galleries that set up another gallery in the bay area during the tech boom are dying. You talk about art with anyone in the bay area/nyc tech scene and they look at you like you are simply wasting their time with complete nonsense. These are the very last people you should be listening to when it comes to art investments. These people are only for the tech aspect of NFTs and the potential money behind that for their start ups, that is it. They don't care about art or the overall art market. Not at all.
I really hope - we as people - don't allow the bay area/nyc tech to try and take over another industry. Every industry they touch they either completely been take over by them and they completely ruined it. Either way this not good for art at all. This is only going to be about money and that is it.
Lush used to be an artist now he's 24/7 money money NFT NFT propaganda marketing machine all day. I can't even look at his IG anymore. Some of these artists grossly became extremely greedy and lame on instagram just posting on IG all day about NFT and that they just made $200,000 from their loser fans... please keep buying more of this shit. This going to start hurting artists more than helps soon.
The art market was already getting very shady with the ghost bids in auction houses but this take everything to a whole new level of chaos. This is really going to mess up that art market for awhile. Only a handful of people will do well on this and everyone else is really going to get burnt so, so badly. I'm really NOT going to touch any NFT unless it's a NFT that comes with an actual signed edition print or actual physical piece of art - which case the NFT is basically just a COA and isn't worth more than that.

NFT Art , by Ken Hashimoto on Mar 14, 2021 0:42:23 GMT 1, I wrote a long form post on this via Facebook yesterday which has sparked some interesting conversations: .
One thing I do like about the entire subject is that I've found my opinion swayed on a few points just in the past day based on conversations I've been having with friends and fans.
I'm sure my opinion may flip flop on a few of these points in the days and weeks to come, maybe years to come if NFTs become a thing?

I enjoyed reading that, thanks for sharing!
For me takeaway is physical art doesn't need an NFT, because it is one in itself ha.
So this is about commercialising digital art really, allowing that be made unique in the same way ... and so the burning of a Banksy print was really dumb ha (in theory at least!)..
Although! Digital art to me has always been commercial through video games, movies, animations. It doesn't need a mechanism to make money for it. It's already a massive industry. That's where it's competed with painting until now etc.
Are NFT just bad animations, movies or video games? Like, should they artist have gone alot further with the work to make it one of those? ... It's a bit like the video art you see galleries. Always feel like bad Tv to me 🤷. I'm starting to NFT in a similar way.

NFT Art , by jimmyjam on Mar 14, 2021 14:59:06 GMT 1, Disney is a trillion dollar company. Wait until they release NFTs. They own the animation and sports world in America.
Nytimes did a interesting article about this. www.nytimes.com/2021/03/12/arts/design/beeple-nonfungible-nft-review.html
"If NFTs bring anything new to art speculation, it is the appalling environmental price of blockchain transactions; the artist Memo Akten computed that the average NFT has a carbon footprint equal to a European citizen’s power use for a month."
*So artists, who are like Shepard Fairey and are environmentalist, should really think twice before getting involved with this.
"Similarly to KAWS, the subject of a current show at the Brooklyn Museum, Beeple often repurposes Pixar, Disney, “Star Wars” and Pokémon characters in the way earlier artists painted Christian saints or Greek deities. Unlike KAWS, who has at least tried to produce an artistic project of his own, Beeple uses these cartoon characters as social-media mnemonics; they’re signposts in the endless churn of the image stream, to confirm you know what you are looking at, you already like it, you know the artist is on your team.
*Wow did Nytimes just give props to KAWS even due to this NFT crap?

I've heard that Burnt Banksy talk about the stunt on Clubhouse. He's become quite the NFT celeb. Anyway the guy is a total buffoon. To hear him talk about it is painful, and even more painful to hear all of the people in the room praise him like he's some sort of art world phenom. He'll go the way of the "backpack kid" or basically any other one trick pony. I actually gave him the benefit of the doubt but after hearing him talk about it he's just a chump.

Awful. b) NFT are good only if you plan to resell it. one day. if you can. Generally agree but there will be technology that’s developed to fill this niche. This is pretty basic but get the idea:

In regards to this nft craze. It's as if I fell asleep and woke up in a place I don't recognize. In one sense I understand it, in another sense I am happy for those finding success in it, but ultimately this type of shit does not suit my tastes or fall into the category of something I could ever say "I need that". I will keep my ears open to hearing how this journey goes as it's certainly on a bit of a ride, but I would be extremely surprised if I ever got into this myself!

NFT Art , by jimmyjam on Mar 14, 2021 18:47:53 GMT 1, I don't have much, but honestly as a small crypto holder, I'm really upset by all NFTs stuff - clearly.
I think this cheapens blockchain and bring much more confusion and speculation to crypto in general.
Rather than using these smart engineers, resources, money to integrate cryptocurrency into everyday use and life, I still can't buy a sandwich at 99.99% restaurants with cryptocurrency and it's already been more than a decade since this has gone "mainstream", they decide to make a fake product, NFT, to lauder cryptocurrency through.
They had all this time to make blockchain technology, Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies useful for everyday life. They didn't. I'm starting to think they don't want to integrate crypto with everyday life because it will bring more government, and governments around the world, attention to all this.
I think Tesla and it's connection to Coinbase/Crypto through Tim Draper makes that a unique situation but I don't think other major companies like Apple are going to buy into this. IF, they do then that will save crypto but if they don't, very soon, it's going to crash prices. Crypto needs this type of hype, speculation, and government stimulus money to keep it going. All of that it going to end soon unless another major player like Apple get's involved. Tim Cook, is very conservative in investing and smart, doesn't have to listen to Tim Draper or Elon which is why I don't think he will get involved.
To me, stupid things like NFT, this will only bring later a harder federal regulatory inquiry into all this. I'm really starting to think this all for a few company's and their major IPOs coming like Coinbase before governments get involved in this, which will crash crypto prices. So just a few more years before this all come coming down hard. Might not go to zero but crypto prices will hurt for awhile.
The big whales have convinced a lot of rich people to get involved. Don't be surprised, very soon, they pull the rug from all this and get out with billions before prices crash. Stimulus checks are ending for good soon, maybe another very small one but I think this it, and life will get back to normal soon. This easy money craze will be over soon. NFT and Bitcoin is part of this all this craze.
NFTs - The more you ready about NFTs, there is absolutely nothing good about them. From environmental issues to many financial issues as well. To me, this cheapens artists and gallery that gets involved with this. It's so based on quick greed rather than anything else.

NFT Art , by thisisalow on Mar 14, 2021 19:19:48 GMT 1, I really like this one but for £10k I would want a canvas too. Especially as it's on Instagram for anyone to have.or the artist should provide a projector setup so it can be on the wall http://instagr.am/p/CMU66KghfDZ I'm sorry but this stuff is so so dreary...
Give me BBC2 idents everytime!
