Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by Inknart on Aug 8, 2021 16:24:11 GMT 1, What I've been asking all along. Maybe to some it's art, but to the majority of NFT owners, it just looks like a stock or crypto coin with a cap based on how many are avail now and what will be left. Are they actually going to burn/destroy physical art? I haven't been on here for a while it all got a bit fake art and NFT for me. Yes, if you choose NFT, they will then burn the Physical OG, if someone chooses the Physical OG, then the NFT is deleted, or Saved forever since you can already do that haha.

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by Terry Fuckwitt on Aug 8, 2021 16:25:07 GMT 1, Completely agree. Could I also add that whoever was recommending UAA to the fuckin crypto kids as a good place to find info on art flips, please just stop. That's the last thing this place needs🙄 Haha, really? It doesn't seem like flipping physical art would interest them or bring worthwhile returns. When this launched, I was interested to find out more about the NFT world. So far, I've seen nothing about it that's appealing. There seems zero desire to actually keep anything, only to see it increase in value and then move it on. Everyone here may have an interest in their collection increasing in value, but at least most people also actually have artists they love and want to keep forever.
Yeah, I wish I was joking. It does seem that the NFT players just treat it all like stocks and shares and zero about the art. It is definitely another world and not one I would like to ever get involved in again.

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by Deleted on Aug 8, 2021 16:44:31 GMT 1, I just spent 19 minutes looking at Damien Hirst Instagram. Has any other artist gotten worse over time? This guy flings paint on works by his assistants, is working on a "color chart" exhibit, and signs medical safes in editions of 50. Yawn - we get it, you're not a fan.
Jog on...

He produces some absolute shit, yes, and his recent show at Gagosian was woeful (the Coke machine was actually the most thought-provoking thing there), but honestly think The Currency is one of the most interesting artistic projects in years. Think his eye is always primarily on money, but he's still capable of very interesting art.
Also, many, possibly even most, artists get worse over time!

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by Jonas B on Aug 8, 2021 17:04:11 GMT 1, His current (post coke machine) show at Gagosian Britannia Street made me appreciate what a great artist he is. I do think he needs to curb his current 'splodge' period though.

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by surf101 on Aug 8, 2021 17:12:38 GMT 1, I just spent 19 minutes looking at Damien Hirst Instagram. Has any other artist gotten worse over time? This guy flings paint on works by his assistants, is working on a "color chart" exhibit, and signs medical safes in editions of 50. Whilst his early works are good, I don't long to see him perpetually making the same stuff, or any other artist for that matter. He takes risks, of which there are many more hits than misses. Most of the people I have met with similar views to yours have never experienced the work first hand - only through computer screens, red top newspapers or perpetuating others views. Your'e unlikely to turn people's minds around about him.

Oddly enough his vanity got the better of him here: http://instagr.am/p/CI8fX09gML6 You can see an assistant working on one painting and an empty chair at another desk with another painting You're obviously not to well versed in recent art history if you think he's the first artist to use assistants. Unsure why are you on this thread if you dislike him so much.

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by kfroms on Aug 8, 2021 17:20:28 GMT 1, Go to see his show at Newport Street Gallery. This shows you that , at his core, he is actually a great artist. Several of his series will hold an important place in art history, like him or not.
My 2cent to the Currency: I tried my luck as I always wanted a spot print and thought that getting an original for 2k USD is the best chance ever. When I got the email I thought ' perfect . swap it asap, frame it and done'
The next morning my wife told me she got an email as well and this is when I entered the rabbit hole. All of a sudden the whole thing got far more interesting as we had one token to play with. I started reading Discord, left straight away as I felt that I first need to read up on the general concept of blockchain, NFTs etc as this is nothing which interested me before. It still is a world which I am not interested in but I appreciate it. Its not about the art, its about rarity, immediate, frequent trading and price increase. Fine by me but not for me.
But at least I now know what a paper hand is.
And I can't wait for the swapping period to open and see what happens.
Overall an excellent piece of art.

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by artsio on Aug 8, 2021 20:32:32 GMT 1, Sorry, not following the discord, but how you see this project going? I only have one and wanted another, to have both physical and online.... just saw prices rise to 7k. Crazy to go up so quick! How do you see long term evolution? Maybe a good entry point? Now I have to again decide about NFT or the paper... tough decision!

Now I have to again decide about NFT or the paper... tough decision! The stats of the last three hours:
In the last 3 hours, there have been 7 sales totalling 60,331 US$, with max price of 9,482 US$, average price of 8,619 US$, median price of 8,534 US$ and min price of 8,007 US$.
There is no final answer to your question. The crypto gang is super disappointed that the prices are where they are. Analog people like me are surprised that our investment quadrupled in no time.
I guess the next milestone is when the exchange opens and the number of NFTs will go down.

Personally I'd buy one before the end of the first 2 months if you want to hold and keep one
When people start burning the NFTs they will be come more scarce so I would guess the price would increase. Complete guess though

He used to have a webcam in his studio and you could watch teams of assistants making originals. This isn’t new… or shocking.

As others have said, this is not unusual - see the link below. From the Tate website, it shows one of Bridget Riley’s assistants working on a large canvas - as I understand it BR only ever works on the studies and then leaves it to assistants to complete the main works.

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by Dahmer on Aug 9, 2021 9:37:17 GMT 1, Basically everyone has an assistant. I’ve assisted photographers where I should of taken more credit than the actual photographer. Even in uni there’s a couple of people who’s final work was either taken by me, lit by me, or I gave them the original idea.
It’s how the world works. You shouldn’t expect the CEO of Tesco to be also packaging the bourbon cremes and down in the abattoir or baking the croissants first thing in the morning.
