How to sell Banksy edition?, by peacegirl on Jul 5, 2021 13:16:17 GMT 1, Hi, I think I'm ready (sadly) to sell my unsigned, numbered Napalm. Can anyone advise of how I can assess value or whether it's ok to sell through an agent. Can anyone recommend someone? I've kind of ruled out auction as I want to keep things simple.
Thanks very much in advance for any advice

How to sell Banksy edition?, by dotdot on Jul 5, 2021 16:56:17 GMT 1, for the avoidance of any doubt.
do not sell at the drop on one's hat.
spend a few weeks on it.
(look through a thread or two... plenty to learn - and don't us it for a thesis - we've seen that request already)
You'd rather do that and sell for 20 and find it worth 40 p ... just as an example, of course...
( see for ref bdp )
Call a few "places selling this kind of art" ask for their advice... if you hear a few things you like, take notes then ... call some more.
auction houses ? well you've decided.
people from here...? up to you really - remember if someone is very nice to you.. that's generally for a reason... and .. vice versa.
Be cautious as you would (if you were) buying from someone you didn't know.
Do not treat this place like "it" knows everything... i'll start by saying I certainly don't
oh, and 1/ keep your head , 2/ get a coa from pc , & 3/ let us know how you get on...

How to sell Banksy edition?, by peacegirl on Jul 5, 2021 17:49:15 GMT 1, Thank you so much for replying. I have POA already and have had a bit of a browse on here but couldn't find anything about Myartbroker. I'm speaking to them tomorrow. Did ask Sotheby's for a valuation but auction does seem like a faff. I will let you know

He will want to see its condition, but thatโs to be expected when there is a lot at stake, good luck

How to sell Banksy edition?, by bob60 on Jul 6, 2021 6:08:27 GMT 1, Be wary of people who send you private messages wanting to buy this print from you. They will kill you with kindness, play dumb and innocent whilst also telling you that your print is one of the less popular Banksy prints. As mentioned Andy @ Castle Gallery is extremely helpful whenever I have sent him a message asking for advice. Please update us on what you decide and this may be helpful to others.

How to sell Banksy edition?, by peacegirl on Nov 16, 2021 14:03:33 GMT 1, Hi again, Well I was asked to report back and I'm a bit wary of getting too specific as I signed some sort of NDA. Anyway it hasn't been a good experience (mention no names) and Napalm's now back with me. I put this down to the broker being too busy with more important customers to communicate with me or bother publishing my print on the site for 4 out of the 5 months they had it despite me drawing their attention to this, confused comms and a huge mark-up of the price by them - no wonder it didn't sell. Oh and when they did list it they did so with mistakes.
I'd kind of spent the suggested sum in my head (support child at uni/retire a couple of years early due to ill health) but ultimately I'm relieved to get the print home - I love this print so not sure if I want to sell now or hang on for a bit but think I'm going to at least get it proffesionally framed.
Thanks for the advice though anyway

How to sell Banksy edition?, by peacegirl on Nov 16, 2021 14:22:53 GMT 1, Is it unusual to sign a NDA? It may just have been around price I can't remember and don't have the contract to hand.

How to sell Banksy edition?, by JFCC on Nov 16, 2021 15:14:21 GMT 1, That sounds a bit of grim, if not uncommon experience, agents can be very difficult to deal with.
I personally prefer face to face (face time and phone) or strong personal recommendations from people I trust. Smaller niche Galleries also seem to do the best job as they work their clientele well and will often have a good network of other parties they work with.
So I'd suggest you speak to one of the more knowledgable well connected galleries. There are many good ones to deal with and it's normally about coming to a fair consignment arrangement with somebody you actually enjoy dealing with. Plenty of members here will suggest many names.
As a new name offered to me recently I have heard very good things about Carla at Extraordinary Objects in Cambridge. She is very well connected as she was ex Hang Up who had a great reputation in the Banksy world in her time there. I have not sold through her nor am I connected to her, it is just a recommendation from a colleague who has recently had a good experience.
Napalm is a great print and unsigned ones still sell pretty well albeit not at the top of the market as it has come back a bit this year.
Good luck with whatever you chose to do!!
