Laugh Now on metal @ Sotheby's 29 June, by pollz66 on May 13, 2021 11:43:53 GMT 1, It's a good size too. I'm also wondering if it's direct from Pest Control as there doesn't seem to be any provenance trail.

Laugh Now on metal @ Sotheby's 29 June, by Sundowner on May 14, 2021 21:01:30 GMT 1, It's not direct from Pest Control - it was originally shown at (and purchased from) Barely Legal in 2006.
This is far stronger than the piece on card that sold this week although £2.5m is a punchy low estimate IMO.

Laugh Now on metal @ Sotheby's 29 June, by fenderusastrat on May 15, 2021 0:10:25 GMT 1, I disagree that this piece is far stronger than the monkeys on board from Christie’s. There are plenty of L/N monkeys around on every medium imaginable but rarely do you get multiple monkeys on one piece. The metal medium is cool as is the size, but I personally would rather have the 3 monkeys on board. I think the multiple monkeys would command as much or more of a presence on a wall even though the overall piece on board wasn’t as large as the metal one. It wouldn’t surprise me if the results for the metal piece are higher since it’s going up after the Love is in The Air canvas that just sold for $13M, but I thought someone got a really good deal on the 3 monkeys. The fact the metal piece was displayed at Barely Legal also gives it a bit of an edge but I would imagine there are also other collectors which would still prefer the triple monkeys on the wall over the single metal one.

Laugh Now on metal @ Sotheby's 29 June, by Sundowner on May 15, 2021 21:04:35 GMT 1, Each to their own fenderusastrat. For me, it's as much about the history of this piece having been exhibited at a seminal show as the image itself. I believe it was the only version of this work at the show.

Laugh Now on metal @ Sotheby's 29 June, by iamzero on May 15, 2021 22:45:19 GMT 1, I always wonder where all these pieces end up. I have a photo of me from Laz next to a Laugh Now that was painted onto pallet wood and being sent out to a buyer. There must be loads of pieces that none of us have ever seen.

Laz had these stencils on metal on show in the Greek St gallery when he first opened Lazinc in 2006, along with the melting phone box, which I think Hirst bought. I'm assuming Laz either held the metals back for the Barely Legal show later that year or asked collectors to allow him to exhibit the pieces they owned in LA.

The Barely Legal one eventually made it onto the street in LA...
The one shown at Lazinc on Greek Street was a different version...

Laugh Now on metal @ Sotheby's 29 June, by vernaxley on May 23, 2021 18:57:06 GMT 1, It's an impressive size, but £2-3million is a lot for something that was taken off a wall. I'm surprised Pest Control gave it a certificate.
