Rashid Johnson 🇺🇸 Exhibition News • New Print Release , by Winter on Nov 6, 2023 17:23:48 GMT 1, You can still get his original works very reasonably from auctions. Not the anxious series as these are his most popular series. That said, offering a relatively small editioned etching from this most popular series for £2k is hardly insulting. You could probably spend more on a Connor Bros print. Take your pick.

Rashid Johnson 🇺🇸 Exhibition News • New Print Release , by qest on Nov 6, 2023 17:40:59 GMT 1, Ahahah love Serra work his scultpure are more into the minimalism school but your right about this drawings. Personnally it's an iconic Rashid signature work and the cheapest you'll get so far ... but it's all about taste and understand people not sensible to his work. Would love this one and not a plate I love his work, but know that this is a very bad example of his work. Like most popular artists, their prints just offer meager crumbs to those who can't afford and/or don't have access to their primary market. It's insulting really, but people still clamor for anything if the recent auction history is hot, so quality is disregarded. If people staved off buying, perhaps the offerings would improve. This is getting dangerously close to a discussion of something other than the economics of art. Dare I ask how and why this is a bad example of his work?

Because it's tiny and the figures are too spaced out. I think this series works best to convey the anxiety and torment, when it's large scale and the figures are all tightly packed together, trapped.

But you're not going to get anything large scale without paying a fortune for it.

Rashid Johnson 🇺🇸 Exhibition News • New Print Release , by Jimini Cricket on Nov 6, 2023 21:41:46 GMT 1, I love it when speculating investment folks don't know how to buy art that goes up in mega value so they buy prints that cost more than 48" x 36" paintings on canvas by emerging artists. Watching them kneecap their capital is a wonderful thing.🤗

Watching them kneecap their capital is a wonderful thing.🤗 I really would like to know your definition of emerging. I will keep it broad, bfa candidates, mfa candidates, self taught artists with very little exhibition history, sometimes zero. No attention from collectors and galleries, so they are really hungry and determined to impress. They are also very, very cheap.🤗

Rashid Johnson 🇺🇸 Exhibition News • New Print Release , by Deleted on Nov 6, 2023 23:52:17 GMT 1, All these old street-art collectors turning into experienced art advisors is very comical. When people say emerging or original works from new artists.. why not state the artists? Back up what you are saying.
I would say too many open editions, time releases and over priced prints for new artists really hurt the print market as well as the current economy / wars. These things will change and some of the nicer prints will do well again. It might take awhile tho.
Same members dog every decent cheap release from any blue chip artists. We are not all billionaires who can afford the nicer larger pieces or people who have the connections to artists that will actually make it. Let's face it Gagosian has a contact list of billionaires that most of aren't on - if you are congrats. These galleries will make or break and artist not some member on this forum. Stating the obvious about how art is being sold and bought isn't going to change any of this. You can do A LOT worse investing $2500 in art today than a Rashid Johnson print with his most popular images - even if it's tiny.

Lucky you have the eye to spot the talent just waiting to be discovered. I admit this is much more fun way to collect art

Rashid Johnson 🇺🇸 Exhibition News • New Print Release , by Winter on Nov 8, 2023 11:13:48 GMT 1, I don't think anyone's buying this edition thinking it's anything more than it is. It's a small, cheap etching that he produced for the lower end of the market. It's good he produced it as an etching rather than a quick digital artwork. If you look what else £2k buys you it's a good little buy. No doubt 50% of the edition will end up on the secondary market as it ticks all the flipper boxes.
