TateWard โข Art Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by Blue on Nov 18, 2022 0:39:24 GMT 1, Nothing here, I see two of Damien's The Currency went unsold at ยฃ8,000 and none go the HENI editions got a bid either. When Life Gives you a Lemon always seems to do well, one of these ยฃ40 posters is in every sale. Not the best timed UK auction, with the Autumn Statement and gloomy economic forecasts today...

TateWard โข Art Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by its all about me on Jan 18, 2023 13:27:38 GMT 1, What are people's opinions of Tate Ward? I have bought two items from them at auction on two separate occasions and each time I have not been very happy with things. Have I just been unlucky or are they known to be rather unprofessional in their dealings?
I realise they are one of the main auction houses for urban art so I don't want to dismiss them altogether but I am now very reluctant to bid on any of their future auctions. How have other people found them?

TateWard โข Art Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by Wanchope on Jan 18, 2023 13:54:27 GMT 1, I've only ever had good experiences buying and selling, but I guess like all auction houses, problems could happen. They do open days for you to view the items in person so if it's an expensive one I would make the effort to see it in person. All the best

TateWard โข Art Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by concrete jungle on Jan 18, 2023 13:58:23 GMT 1, Iโd agree - only sold with them in the past but always clued in and on the ball - never had an issue that wasnโt sorted pronto. Appreciate there is past history posted on the forum regarding sale of dubious items, but itโs buyer beware imo - do your homework, and assume nothing. Iโd be the same for any auction house including the likes of Sothebys etcโฆ..

All the best I have sold with Tate ward and had mainly good results and quick payment, having said that I am careful what I put in their auction and would advise to check what they sell well and what they donโt. They always make things easy as well and are not snooty like some other London auction houses.

TateWard โข Art Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by jstjst on Jan 18, 2023 14:19:03 GMT 1, I have used them to sell several higher value Banksy items - I found them v good. Comms was quick, prices suggested sensible, fees lower than elsewhere and payment was made quickly. One didn't sell & was returned quickly and without hassle. I was happy with prices made, overall maybe less than Sotherbys, but with lower fees - about same overall in my pocket. Only purchase one item - thats was fine.

TateWard โข Art Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by cemltz on Jan 18, 2023 15:05:06 GMT 1, What are people's opinions of Tate Ward? I have bought two items from them at auction on two separate occasions and each time I have not been very happy with things. Have I just been unlucky or are they known to be rather unprofessional in their dealings? I realise they are one of the main auction houses for urban art so I don't want to dismiss them altogether but I am now very reluctant to bid on any of their future auctions. How have other people found them? What specifically were you not happy with? Did you get the wrong items? Was there an issue with shipping? In general, there shouldn't be surprises with auction items - ask all the questions beforehand (they answer them), do your diligence, bid what you think it is worth, pass if it goes above, enjoy if you win.
Is Tate Ward the same as Sotheby's or Bonham's or Phillips? No. But in our little corner of the art world they are certainly above "good enough" in my experience.

TateWard โข Art Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by ubl on Jan 18, 2023 16:08:57 GMT 1, I sold with them without any issue. But I would recommend tripple checking when you buy with them. They constantly have exactly the same catalogue of work which is a bit suspicious, and a lot of these works are hard to verify...

I would rather not go in to actual specifics, particularly as I know Tate Ward come in to this site from time to time. Suffice to say, on both occasions, the item description on the lot page clearly did not match up with what the item actually was, including the condition of the artwork. I realise mistakes may happen but the way they dealt with it when I raised my concerns seemed very unprofessional. Once is forgivable. Twice in a row and alarm bells start ringing for me.

This does happen with them. They often use stock photos and put up condition reports before they have actually reviewed the pieces in hand, and then don't update them. Anything I buy from them (or any other auction house) I ask for additional in hand pictures of actual item, and reconfirmation of all condition notes. '

TateWard โข Art Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by Wanchope on Jan 18, 2023 17:35:09 GMT 1, Exactly. Buyer beware and ask for more photos and as many Q's as you can. Personally Harry has always been excellent and not the "tool" as mentioned above. I guess everyone has different experiences, but so far the comments lean towards Tate being a decent enough outfit

TateWard โข Art Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by Pete the Post on Jan 18, 2023 17:42:52 GMT 1, Mixed id say. Some of what they do is great, they can make things very easy to say the least.
But they can also be pretty shite with other stuff.
Id use them again, but id be very careful what items they got, and nothing high value would go there.
No issues with what ive bought though.

I wont be bidding on any of their items again unless I can get in to London beforehand and view the actual piece in front of my eyes. I don't trust them anymore I'm afraid.

TateWard โข Art Auctions ๐ฌ๐ง, by Acme Thunderer on Jan 18, 2023 20:10:36 GMT 1, When Iโve asked them for condition reports in the past, they have highlighted any issues and provided me with all the photos I had requested (nothing was hidden at all). If you ask for specific information they have always been very open and honest, so I would therefore advise that any buyers should be specific with what they want to see.
