I think you meant to say that “the seller would have net less than cost” which is simply untrue unless they agreed to pay over 36% in fees. (I used today’s GBP/EUR conversion as opposed to a historical one)

They should have profited by about £1,400 assuming a 10% seller’s fee and using today’s conversion figure, which is a shortcoming of the calculation. It’s unfair to say that the piece absolutely tanked without considering the state of the market. As such, I’d say that it did as expected.
