S & S seems to be going mental these days, by gilbaron on Apr 4, 2008 19:14:46 GMT 1, so in the long run would you lot rather have a signed stop and search or an unsigned but older more iconic piece like hmv, gwb, barcode or liita? They are pricewise fairly close at the moment (signed trolleys color as well) and I have been flip-flopping as to which I'd rather have for the long haul. thanks Gil

S & S seems to be going mental these days, by Philippe on Apr 4, 2008 19:20:10 GMT 1, That's tough it really comes down to what image you prefer. For example I would trade my S&S for an u/s Barcode with a nice red Banksy Stamp. Whereas someone might say they would never trade a signed for an unsigned so you see its really in the eye of the beholder whether they choose to appease their esthetic concerns over fiscal.

S & S seems to be going mental these days, by gilbaron on Apr 4, 2008 19:35:36 GMT 1, I'd like to try and balance the two interests - financial vs aesthetic. I mean at the end of the day its a win-win really, not the worst dillema to have. But it does keep me up at night thinking that if things continue I may never afford a signed piece without winning the lottery. It does seem to my inexperienced eye that the signed pieces are outstripping the unsigned in appreciation over the longer run and thus my dillemma becuase I think aesthetically I prefer some of the older images (liita, hmv, etc) but from financial responsability I have to look at this in part as an investment because I haven't won the lottery and its not disposable income. gil

So that's why Laz used to say that he picked up Banksy's finished work when they met in a supermarket carpark There was me thinking that it other types of dealers who picked up their stuff in supermarket car parks!

S & S seems to be going mental these days, by eddiedangerous on Apr 4, 2008 19:57:27 GMT 1, I was talking to someone about this just this morning. I would disagree with both of you. Stop and search heralds a new type of work for banksy - going back to his more simple roots and demonstrated by the new street work. The complexity of the LA Stuff seems to have gone. As for trolleys - sacrilege!! Banksys weakest recent piece - well for me it is probably applause or sale ends. ahem interesting observations mr Pez. S&S - though a well executed piece - includes ahem Dorothy from the wizard of Oz. - This imho taints the piece somewhat - my point being[glow=red,2,300] anonymity in an image is quite important[/glow]. See, for example, if Clarence from Daktari appeared in a piece it would be forever associated with that kids tv program from a long long time ago. (tongue firmly in cheek of course!) As for [glow=red,2,300]Trolleys [/glow]- this is ranking up there at present with [glow=red,2,300]GWB[/glow] for it's sheer simplicity. [glow=red,2,300]Sale Ends [/glow]has something (I'm sure for some) - but for me - not much -> I'm not going to be in a queue for that. ..
by definition they're all f**ked!!! gwb, liita, qv, wsm, hc, mq, tw, are all definitive images, and ones I long to own, however if [glow=red,2,300]Athena[/glow] were still in business they'd have already sold 1 billion for banksy unsigned, and 3 on average would adorn the walls of each house in the world...lovely!! each of these previously annonymous prints all now have characters in,
its the [glow=red,2,300]banksy[/glow] girl, its that [glow=red,2,300]banksy[/glow] monkey, its that crazy[glow=red,2,300] banksy [/glow]winston churchil, its that [glow=red,2,300]banksy[/glow] kate moss, its that [glow=red,2,300]banksy[/glow] monkey girl with the bomb love rat pulp fiction i fought the law i cant believe you people buy this s**t cnd soldirs ("so clever" quoted by my mum)
do y'get me? anonymity? theres none left in banksys work and i love it none the less. and as his world grows they become less and less anonymous. so if its anonymity your looking for, I'm doing a lovely run of my own hand pulled limited edition silk screen prints signed by me the artist and only ยฃ40 each.........................................................................................................................only kidding, but...
excuse my rant... not really ment as a rant but got carried away with highlighting and everything, but what I'm really trying to say is I really really really miss the last 100 posts...
COME BACK SOON!!!!! ;D

S & S seems to be going mental these days, by bonesy on Apr 4, 2008 20:23:28 GMT 1, The only unsigned trade I would consider would be for a GWB. Even if the values are similar though I think it would be difficult to find that trade.
I know that (but thats not a story) ORIGINAL ROCK WAS ON DISPLAY IN BRITISH MUSEUM FOR SOME TIME WITH BOGUS NARRATIVE
I misunderstood ya Bongo I thought you were referring to the original image (the LA painting) and there was a specific story behind the image's meaning. Ive heard interpretations of its meaning but thought the man himself had spoken about the imagery and I had missed it.

agreed - you only need a v small "group" to list at the same time - setting the "current" market value + a bit of shill bidding and hey presto, you've jacked up the "market" price.

S & S seems to be going mental these days, by spenie1975 on Apr 4, 2008 21:54:56 GMT 1, If it pops back on the market then I would agree shill bidding. I think that it was a market rate for a fantastic image. Framed up it looks classy with an important message, simplistic yet stunning to look at. Even my Grandad comments on this piece and gets the message. He's 80. He also thinks Banksy has got Garland down to a tea. ( He thinks he painted her) The blue signature and gloves add a nice amount of colour, drawing your attention. Very clever.
