Banksy Copyright© & Trademark™, by Lunch Special on Sept 17, 2020 15:17:36 GMT 1, I wonder if they decide to appeal and Banksy decides that this is so serious that he needs to reveal himself/herself/themselves to contest this decision... Sounds like the anonymity irritated the panel! Would be great for him to expose himself in court! Interesting for sure... long term ,this ruling if left unchallenged will effect his market and brand
How so? the only thingg that would affect his market or " brand " is if he did in fact reveal himself in court...lol
hes an artist he will create more art to challenge and mock the system. What he's been doing all along.
So many of you seem to be so vested so concerned so interested in his future?
Or more so your own future investments.....

mr brainwash uses the image in question alot , now the company has gained copyright can they now seek compensation from all that has used the image from the start of the case?

I think it will as every man and his dog will use his images, you'll see Banksy pyjamas, bed spreads- its given company's licence to do what they want.
They already do. You can get literally anything you want with a Banksy image on. Mouse Mats, mugs, calendars, t shirts, canvas prints. This will continue to be the case. It just means Banksy can’t stop this from happening Having allowed it for 20years? Not sure what the excitement is about?

Banksy Copyright© & Trademark™, by medichead on Sept 17, 2020 16:57:33 GMT 1, Am I the only one not seeing any real issue here? People are getting a little dramatic.
Seeing postcards, T-shirts, birthday cards, wrapping paper, calendars of Dali's, Rothko's, Warhol's doesn't make their work less valuable......why would you imagine this negatively affects the value of Banksy's official, certified, and limited output?
I feel like it's a sad day for artists' rights, and get that this might be a minor headache for Banksy et al., but come on...chill!

I think it's the idea that the the guys who have stole it off Banksy will now only allow the image to be used if people pay them a licencing fee? Or do I have that wrong?
ie medicom paid them a fee to license the image for their statues
maybe it's a principle thing? Imagine that?

Banksy Copyright© & Trademark™, by sycamore on Sept 17, 2020 17:31:41 GMT 1, The title of this thread is amazing. Banksy played the game. He created his niche. He’s cemented his place in art history. Banksy is a brand. Banksy is a corporate artist. Banksy isn’t Robin Hood. Banksy could create open editions like Shep. Banksy could sell his work with a contract not to be displayed in museums or galleries etc. Banksy took injustice and made it into a brand. His print market and VIP sales - his carefully orchestrated exhibits. There is a lot of work that went into all this to create this image of a man of the people. It’s capitalism at its finest. And I enjoy Banksy’s work and appreciate the charity work he does but Banksy is the art world. So Kaws gets a lot of slack for being too corporate and cashing it in. Banksy has been cashing it in for years now.

I know this was first talked about when it came out but Full Colour Black was a one person deal and has had ties to banksy for years through brandalism and came out at the exact same time as the Banksy store. Surely Full Colour Black would have got crushed by the legal system vs Banksy deep pockets.

How much would it cost to ask every major news outlet to broadcast and advertise your name, perhaps even on a global scale?
More or less than the cost of the legal case and money made through sales via GDP?

That's just what Banksy wrote on the end of the museum description card he placed with the piece when he planted it. When the British museum produced the postcard a few years ago they put it on the back. I don't think that equates to pest control approval.
