Perhaps they are literally bored out of their minds and have lost all sense of reality or want to park/hide millions of $dolls?

Sotheby's have two sales closing this week, tomorrow and wednesday, which seem to have fallen below the radar (at least mine) including Shrigley, Hirst, Stik, Invader... Some decent prices still although I know it can change at the last minute.

I was just after some basic auction advice if anyone can help?

I was looking at a couple of items on the 'This is Tomorrow: Works from the David Ross Collection' via Sotheby's today -

It was an on-line only auction.

My understanding is that the bidding went up in increments of £200.

I cant for the life of me fathom why it says 'Lot Sold : £4032' this for the Hirst Dumpling print as an example.

I thought this would be in increments of £200, or are they displaying the hammer price, plus all the fees?

Really appreciate any clarification, this was my first participation in an auction today, and just trying to understand everything that's involved.

Correct - it’s plus fees and VAT and whatever else they can think of to add to make it look as though it sold for a stack more.

Did my research on the fee's involved, so was aware of what was added to the hammer price at the end, but wasn't sure if this was the figure displayed now. 

Bit deceiving as I was following the Hirst lots, and as they finished, this higher figure pops up, and wasn't sure.

i believe the Lot sold amount on Sothebys is the hammer price plus the buyers premium.
So not including Artist resale rights, vat etc

A mixed bag - decent results for the signed Girl With Balloon and Morons.

Poor results for Choose Your Weapon, grey (why the seller agreed to the ridiculously low estimate I don't know), Love Rat, Kate (nearly 100k lower than Sotheby's earlier this year), Laugh Now.

And average for most of the others.

They include BP, but not ARR or VAT on BP. Sometimes members post the final numbers but the buyer will be paying more than the sold price.

Solid results there all the way round, not surprising really. The artist of our time.

Signed Laugh Now was low due to it being a gift dedicated print to "Brendan", who would want that print other than Brendan. The unsigned Girl With Balloon was not in good shape and horribly framed and still fetched £130k.

Trolleys £70k is great as is £120k for a Choose Your Weapon QJ.

Yep good for Trolleys. Not too bad for No Ball Games. But in March at Sotheby's Choose Your Weapon Queue Jumping Grey went for £216,000...

No one's been buying overvalued banksy prints a while since the auctions got greedy with all these banksy only sales and the big cash out exodus. Dead.

Better results than expected to be fair, considering the woeful results of late, good to see appropriate corrections for some pieces (Police Kids was over £100k at the beginning of the year after being £30k in early 2020).

All commodities fluctuate and as has been shared on here no need for a 'fire sale' - the good thing is most who know are not selling anything which is keeping supply lower. If the auction houses can take a breath too and stop having auctions every 2 minutes that will also help (along with / after Love is in the bin).

Add 35% to hammer is a good rule of thumb. It’s a sliding scale but 35% on this level of hammer gets you 25% buyers premium, VAT on the premium (but not the hammer) 4% Artist Resale Right and 1% admin on an online sale.
