I understand why they lowball to entice people in and admire that they don't use the .99p trick....but no way are any of those high end estimates realistic.

Nice lots. Ridiculous estimates! Never understood the argument of setting infeasibly low estimates to serve as an incentive to bid - surely it might have the opposite effect on some people, making them think shit I'm now paying way over the odds on this...

It guarantees the sale will happen and Sotheby’s will get their fees.  The reserve is usually around the same price.

Also the sale would be after the new budget so would fall under any new ruling..

There will be loads of reasons as to why someone is selling all of these now and all of them together in the same sale and whilst £12,300 is a big chunk of money (maybe even £24K if the ownership is shared) I would expect that the owner of these prints will have taken all of this into account long before deciding to sell. This also assumes the seller pays UK taxes.


If the general sales trend over the last year or so continues, £12k or £24k may pale into insignificance for these particular prints especially if the seller negotiated a good deal on the basis that they put all of these prints in this particular sale.

Interesting to see two version of Grin Reaper, the regular version and an AP version on cream coloured paper. Andipa also seems to have a few variations of GR.

The estimate on that h/f Grannies looks ambitious IMO. I've seen one of these close-up and they are pretty terrible....
