Hello, I am looking on the Sotherby's website to see what price a print has recently sold for. The amount is given as:

Lot sold: 4,032 GBP.

I wonder if this is the hammer price or the buyers price (ie after buyers premium, VAT and AR)? It looks too odd a number to be a hammer price.

They used to show only the hammer+bp, now it’s all the others fee included as well

This is somewhat misleading.
The figures shown on Sotheby's website are hammer plus 26% buyer's premium only.
That doesn't even include the VAT on the 26%
Or the new 1% charge they call the overhead charge and of course VAT on the 1%
nor does it include the ARR - artists resale royalties.
If we look at the recent sale of the GWB sold at Sothbey's on the 24th November:
The Hammer was 170k the sold price says 214,200 GBP.
The actual figure the buyer has to pay is in fact - 228,597GBP and NOT 214,200 GBP

Hammer price for that lot is £3,200. Buyer would have paid (if VAT is chargeable), £4,288 inclusive of vat and arr

The final sale price is Hammer plus buyer's Premium they do not show the VAT or ARR as they are not house charges rather taxes. I agree it doesn't tell the full story but equally I see the point as these are charges that are passed on.

Forgive my ignorance as I am quite new to Auctions but why have you put an estimate for Love is in the Air at £80k - 120K? What is the point when it is more likely to sell well in excess of that and clearly the seller will not be accepting a reserve that low? A counterpart of yours sold an AP at in excess of £500k? I am just baffled that's all?

It's the auction house estimate not mine. They do it this way for their sell through ratings.
