Christie's Art Auctions , by adrscib on Apr 3, 2007 9:40:10 GMT 1, I have checked the www.christies.com (search Banksy) and have noticed that Lot 791 / Lot 792 (have been withdrawn).
Two ideas arise....
1) It was either done to keep pumping up Banksy to create for hype and vibe! 2) The sellers refused to sell as the reserve was very low.
In my opinion, Banksy is a piece of art to own and prices keep going up... so it is worth owning.
The only sad part is that now there is rampant speculation - i.e. Banksy can now only be owned by rich people, very few ppl will be able to afford him in a few months time.

Christie's Art Auctions , by manty on Sept 26, 2007 22:45:15 GMT 1, Artist's Resale Right ("droit de Suite"). If the Artist's Resale Right Regulations 2006 apply to this lot, the buyer also agrees to pay us an amount equal to the resale royalty provided for in those Regulations, and we undertake to the buyer to pay such amount to the artist's collection agent
I wanna be an art agent
if the buyer resold it and made a 50% loss, do you think he might get a royalty refund? :-)

Frankie recently got a letter from a agency trying to claim some kinda resale rights from Jose Parla pieces. Basically some people thought it was a load of tosh n some didnt.
If you search through the general disusion board you should find a thread about it, its worth a butchers coz theres a lot more to it than I can remember (sorry stoned n tired )

Will be interesting to see what it goes for though - but seriously doubt it will break the current record (which I believe is 288K GBP)

Christie's Art Auctions , by RBK on Sept 26, 2007 23:45:42 GMT 1, Mark my words friends... predict we will see the first million dollar Banksy in 2008 at auction.
For the most part I think the works that have come up for auction haven't been that special (excluding Monkey Self-Portrait, AK47 Mona, Pie Face & Green Mona). Wait till the real stunners start showing up!
People's thoughts???

Gladly...
* First must clarify - I meant to previously post 'first million dollar Banksy.'
Are You Using That Chair, Show Me The Monet, Sunflowers from Petrol Station, one of those huge (edition of 3) Happy Chopper canvases, certain big LA canvases (Trolley Hunters, Morons, Girl With Balloon)
Or maybe even this:

i wonder if the recent pow crisis will have impact on the sales. Will be interesting to see if there's been a dent in banksy's popularity. I doubt it though.

the legislation is real www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si2006/draft/20063820.htm
the resale rights apply to EU Artists so Parla possibly not eligable? although if original sale took place in UK....
I think the only reason there's a question re the Banksy at Christies is that it is, or was, a 'found' piece, not a piece sold from a primary source and now re-sold
all kinds of implications from this new legislation... doesn't, as I understand it, apply to private sales (like here and majority of eBay) and big auction houses and their normal clients will just absorb it as part of the cost of trading (adjusting prices to compensate maybe, just like buyers premium).
But it will probably hurt the one-man-and-an-internet-connection 'galleries' and some 'flippers' though, if they're caught up with. And of course unwary buyers, who might suddenly find themselves hit for an extra lump of cash on top
If sellers don't charge it to buyers, they are liable for it themselves.

Christie's Art Auctions , by sham69 on Sept 27, 2007 9:09:58 GMT 1, Does anyone remember a listing on ebay about 12-18 months ago? It was the sale of the preparatory work that Banksy had done for the Blur Think Tank album cover. It was massive, kind of 8ft tall by 15ft wide or something done on metal. The seller listed that whoever bought it would a need oxy/acetylene torch to cut up for transport. The work consisted of multiple images similar to the one listed, none of which made the final cut for the album cover. If my memory serves me correctly it went for about Β£9,000. I wonder if the Christie listing stems from that?
Anyone remember the listing? Have an image? Did I dream it?
