In essence both Faile's got within 3k of one another but one sold and the other did not. It's up to the seller to determine whether they want to take a $38k offer (+20%) which would equate to $45,600.
Also, to clear up an incorrect point earlier in this thread, the Sale Ends Today BI'd at $550k, not $525k. It will be quite interesting to see whether or not a deal is made there for that 7x14 foot painting.

Christie's Art Auctions , by afroken on May 15, 2008 21:14:35 GMT 1, Lee, correct me if I'm wrong, but seller's premium and fees are due whether a piece sells or not, right? So there's quite a lot of pressure on the seller to do a deal post-auction.
I worked at Christies a long time ago an that's certainly the way it used to be.

There is no premium due if the work doesn't sell. The premium is only paid by the buyer. There is a small sellers fee and though I've never sold at auction, I know plenty who have. The houses ask for the world but are quite negotiable as to listing fees and placement within the sale if you have quality work. The auction houses are in the moving business so they want to make it as easy as possible to list work for sale which leads to their commission. A good friend has sold many Warhol's and always has the listing fee down around $100. I know for a fact on the last one Christie's initial agreement requested a $1k listing fee which was negotiated to $100. The auction houses also pay for shipping both ways if the work is returned (unsold).

Christie's Art Auctions , by afroken on May 15, 2008 21:29:56 GMT 1, I thought there was a seller's commision of about 15% before taking listing fees into account - which covers photography, catalog listing, etc.

Christie's Art Auctions , by jamesreeve5 on May 15, 2008 22:13:36 GMT 1, 2 Barry McGee's have been bought in this week as well... hey weren't very good examples of his work and they were estimated between $15,000 - $20,000 each. There is a third one coming up at Phillips that probably has the best chance of selling (also estimated at $15,000 - $20,000).
I am also particularly interested in tomorrows Phillips auction because it is the first time a Dash Snow piece is going up for auction.

Thanks I hadn't spotted part II. A friend of mine has the Nan Goldin lot 397. Will be interesting to see what that goes for. It's stunning.

Christie's Art Auctions , by Pattycakes on Jun 10, 2008 17:16:31 GMT 1, Frankly Christie's are not the place to sell Banksy prints, I think it's the first time they have offered them. For me the best London print sale is Bloomsbury Auctions. It's not an Urban art sale, but a mixed one and generally they get pretty good prices.
