But then you might not believe what is relayed to you second hand. Weird that some people are trying to stifle debate on an art forum.

7star wants answers. Stowe have said we’re happy to talk to you on the phone. It’s quite common for companies not to get into lengthy discussions/arguments on online forums. This was 7star gets the answers he so desperately wants and he can share them with us if he doesn’t like the answers he gets.
For what it’s worth I agree with his sentiment and think the pricing is ridiculous but there’s no point screaming behind a keyboard when he’s been offered a way to get the answers he wants.
*Edit - I'd also have a differing view if the debate was about the art itself, but it's about the companies/galleries marketing. They are under no obligation to share that information with us. If 7star feels strongly enough that the marketing is underhand or even illegal then reporting them would have more effect than trying to goad them into an argument online.

Banksy + Clown Skateboards, by astbury on Dec 15, 2021 15:02:39 GMT 1, This print and deck set is driving funds for In Action details below: www.clownskateboards.com/inactionWe have priced it to raise as much money for the cause as possible. Although some don’t agree with the pricing, we have had an overwhelming response and are delighted with the feedback of both Clown Skateboard fans and collectors of Urban art. Unfortunately we have also had some abuse from a very small group of people that think it’s acceptable to slander Clowns good work and be rude to our staff. As the main goal for the release is to help underprivileged kids we have deleted hateful comments on our Instagram page. Thank you so much to everyone who has emailed in. we are working through the emails as we speak and should get back to everyone today, as you can imagine it may take a while with the amount we have received. How much of the £8k is going to the charity?

How much have you donated to charity this year in the form of multiple projects? Clown has definitely been putting in work. Rebuilding skateparks, donating boards and shoes to skate camps cleaning up Areas for kids to skate and the sorts. That work aint free and it ain’t cheap. Talk is cheap. Nuff said. Must be so easy to Start a company off the back of a new widely unknown artist which is what Banksy was in 2000. Drinking beers smoking weed talking about music art the streets and to babes. Yea sounds like a really fake back story.
If the boards were £800 would it had made a difference? Who here works for the government? I’m saying ya be asking question like you the feds.

Banksy + Clown Skateboards, by Stowe Gallery on Dec 15, 2021 16:38:29 GMT 1, I just received an email from Jeff and Vikas. Thought everyone would want to read it. FYI, 100% of the proceeds are going to charity.
Again, if anyone has any questions please email us or call us.
Dear Jamie, Please pass this onto whoever you feel needs to see this, we have nothing to hide, we will not go into a forum to post. Forums are for fans, collectors, enthusiasts and probably some flippers, which is a shame. We as an organisation and a CIC have no place in forums to comment and have never done so, it's for the people we mentioned above. You should also step out of that world mate, leave it to fans, collectors, enthusiasts, it their own space to deduce what they feel, whatever that may be. WE are a bit confused why this situation has arrived, maybe we all were not clear enough on the communications about this release being solely to raise funds for the CIC as a triptych release which we have never done in past, and a one-off thank you print to go with it. We can take some responsibility for that as once again we have tried to do a lot and don’t have the people around us to get everything in place and check everything over, something that this release would have helped us rectify and we hope still can. After reading the link you and a couple of other people have sent us, we can only state what the real facts are. For those of you who are wondering, Banksy gave us this image many moons ago before his work needed a COA, before pest control was formed and before his first ever print release with POW. And long before he was the big name he is today, well done mate. This is our pride and joy and will protect it fully, as it was given to us for our hard graft, lots of laughs, quite a few hangovers but mostly for having each other’s backs, something you don’t forget. We are ecstatic to be the only ones able to use this image for Clown and In Action. Thanks mate. Jeff and Vikas

Hope this clears up the release and puts peoples minds at rest.

Pot calling the kettle black! You have good form
Too easy quoting charities, to get sales from genuine donators or attract sales just to line greedy pockets! Not implying such here, just if the member is so concerned, it can be looked into

Yep, there's a fair bit of ambiguity. Stating that 100% of proceeds will be given to charity doesn't mean anything unless it is declared as gross proceeds, or net.
They wouldn't be lying if they deducted a large sum as expenses before declaring what remained as proceeds.

Banksy + Clown Skateboards, by Dice on Dec 15, 2021 23:49:55 GMT 1, Stowe just deleted their last post saying that 100% of the money made after print costs would be going to charity. Why did they delete it?? Wasn’t quick enough to quote it unfortunately.
This is a classic case of how NOT to go about a charity fund raiser. Too many questions. Too many people involved. Not enough answers forthcoming.
Firstly there is no mention of charity on the Stowe website for the decks.
stowe-gallery.com/
Although clown alludes to a charitable organisation in their recent email no mention is made of this release being for charity or the percentage of turnover going to charity.
mailchi.mp/clownskateboards.com/doing-this-together?e=7da95482bd
Transparency is key here. Stowes record of ripping off Banksy via Mason Storm does them no favours and personally I will be steering well clear of this release, charity or not.

Jeff and Vikas ——————- Hope this clears up the release and puts peoples minds at rest. Stowe. Stop explaining yourself about your work with clown. This place is full of them. 🤡

Banksy + Clown Skateboards, by .dappy on Dec 17, 2021 11:40:35 GMT 1, ... a community interest company (CIC) is a non-charitable limited company ...
... they are generally funded off their traded income and some grants ... ie not donations ...
... however, never mind that this has turned into a bit of a mess ... CICs do some great work and should be supported ...

Anyone who's paying attention will know "100% of the profits" could mean anything. It therefore means nothing.
This kind of statement is deliberately opaque — while cynically feigning clarity.
It's a deceptive way of doing business, especially when also making a song and dance about a cause that will supposedly benefit.
__________
To my fellow members with critical minds, it's always worth examining the choice of words that are often carefully selected by chancers.
A simple exaggerated illustration:
When selling edition X for £8,000, Joe Scammer might allocate 99.8% of the total proceeds to overhead, materials, salaries, bonuses, other operating expenses, "admin", what is euphemistically listed on invoices as 'fruit and flowers', random fees, etc.
The 0.2% left over might be donated to Save the Children.
In a self-congratulatory and still technically-accurate manner, Joe Scammer could then proclaim to the whole world that, "100% of the profits from our sale went to charity! Yay us!!!"
If there is zero transparency being offered on the specific net amount to be received by the relevant cause, then any reference to "donation" is best avoided — as a matter of decency.
__________
Robert Del Naja did things the right way last year, in favour of Bristol Food Union.*
His is the example to be followed:
Absolutely. But at the same time, when purporting to raise money for a charitable cause, full transparency is the only correct way to proceed. Frankly, no other way is ethically acceptable. There should never be any ambiguity, scope for dodginess, or even room for suspicion that the charity banner is possibly being abused — as is the case when unhelpfully vague references are made, like "All profits will go to [x]". So this is less a comment about what Robert Del Na ja is doing right, than about what others are doing poorly.

I think we have a fair idea what will be donated to Charity from these new ones

The question is how much is Stowe claiming in expenses, before the profit. Gallery rent, gallery staff, materials, packaging. I'd hope very little, if anything. But just writing "100% of profits" begs the question.
I'm not exactly sure why Stowe are involved in this at all? It's not like Clown aren't used to selling expensive skateboards, etc. What is their purpose in this?
