Banksy Prices Up or Down?, by 11 on May 14, 2013 9:44:02 GMT 1, LIITA is an understandable jewel - at the recent Bonhams auction the Banksy prints didn't seem to perform well at all. £3.5k for a S&S, something similar for a J&J (both exc. buyers premium) - reading through I was gutted to have missed the auction because it looked like there were some steals to be had.
Maybe there is the odd spike because some looney with too much cash decides they want a Banksy but am not convinced there is much going on in any market at the moment
I maybe wrong

Banksy Prices Up or Down?, by illicey on May 15, 2013 1:53:11 GMT 1, Hi,
Thanks for sending through the Dreweatts.
So I can assure you that I am not trying to drive up prices for personal gain by stoking the propaganda wagon. I live in Asia and have no banksy prints but keep an eye on the market and am interested when something I like comes up which, is at a fair market price and has logistics that work.
I appreciate that over the last (say) year there have been auctions where pieces remained unsold, could be regarded as relative 'bargains' or indeed sold below estimate, after all an auction is a little like fishing. However, from what I can see the more desirable signed prints and canvases have been on the steady increase. I take unsigned prints out of this as I do believe they have a ceiling and will therefore not fluctuate at the same levels.
Recently the more desirable or rare prints (barcode, laugh now, pulp fiction, radar, LITTA and even some interesting Nola colorways) have been banded around at min 10k upwards to 20k. Moreover CYW starting price from 6k upwards (including that freakish 17k at Bonhams) and a rude copper with spray paint set at 20k. In my eyes these have moved upwards and (not surprisingly) a lot of the UK galleries have said that same and actioned it through higher prices (Hang up, taylor gallery ect..).
I was just interested to see people's perception and comments. -whether his lack of recent work has driven this. -whether it's not true at all -whether it is galleries doing the old de beers trick ect..
Me personally, I have a lot of Faile work and it my view is that their stuff is going the other way... and no, I don't want to sell anything;-) ...

This is only what i have heard from people who seem to have a connection to him i do not know if it is truth or not.

Need some cash, make a new garish Nola colourway and flog it under the table to the VIP clients.
Easy.
No wonder prices rise for the standard images.

Reminiscent of every Dolk thread on here regarding prices where relatively little has happened for a long time prices ... Other than with the 'riot' prints ie. two images.

Banksy Prices Up or Down?, by johnnyh on Aug 4, 2013 0:03:22 GMT 1, Sundowner there is a lot of truth in that. In that as prices become higher particularly for signed, AP's and originals a lot of the initial movements have been done. By this I mean people who bought at source and have sold. A lot of these pieces are now being held by people/collectors with a fair amount of cash, middle aged etc and who do not need to sell or trade so the market place/trade in the pieces is reducing so I think prices will continue to rise. Not in massive jumps but the prices if you look at galleries is pretty high or all pieces listed as POA. Not to many originals being put into the market either. He probably does a few new originals a year etc. Not sure if he will do prints openly again. If he does low pricing bought up and traded higher if he does at market value will get slagged off etc
