It's a concept... It's nice, don't you think, that art should be deeper than a pretty image.
I don't have to see it to know that I like the idea.

And I like Gary Hume's other work. So even if this is simple, it's nice to own something hand painted from him, but I also bought the signed book and would love to own a nice print at some point.

I received mine today and love it. The nicest black gloss painting i ever layed my eyes on.
And if you want a change just turn it around and it says "HVME" and "315" ( in my case ) which is, compared to other stuff promoted here, a refreshing piece of art.
The yellow frame is pretty as well, btw.

No, I am still mesmerised staring at plain black gloss ( did i mention the pretty yellow frame ) but I promise to let you know once I turned it around. 
Can you now please be miserable somewhere else? We understood that you are not a fan of this masterpiece.

Ah, the old "I don't like it, prove to me why you do or else you're wrong".
Do I look like Brian Sewell ?

It's a facking window innit, but it's painted black so it reflects the room it's in.
There's a nice yellow frame (The physical piece of art, not the black which is just the reflective surface, IMO)
There's an aspect of Patrick Caulfield, and the windows filled with photographic images in his work... (This is more or less a sculpture of one of those windows)
No coincidence that they're exhibited together and this is the piece the Tate and Hume are releasing...

Once you see the show you get more of the idea behind these small paintings.

Also, there is actually a large painting which is black gloss bisected by yellow lines to make 9 rectangles framed in yellow which I guess must be similar to the one that was at auction.

The last pic is a bit pointless - impossible to take a close up of the gloss without reflections. The fact that I am a rubbish photographer which doesnt help either.

No you are not a rubbish photographer...unfortunately no camera on earth is exempt from the laws of physics...the reflection of yourself is what you paid for...enjoy yourself.

I think the frame is almost part of the artwork and I'm guessing no glass or perspex. You could (if slightly mad) frame the whole thing in a white box frame although that's likely to cause some kind of paradox

You could negate the paradox if you framed it in a non reflective perspex box...then we can all sleep safe.

I was wondering that. How is it held in the frame?

To be honest, I assumed that Hume had just painted the front of the back board of the frame. If you get what I mean.
