I went online immediately after the email. It was available during 10 minutes easy. And during 10 minutes website said "your order cannot be shipped to the selected address". And when the book became sold out my address is working again. What a miracle!
Same case with the last Kaws signed book release. That's not coincidence.

I tried to contact them with a screenshot and their unique answer is "sorry the book is sold out".

I have been to Uniclo asking for a book. I saw some photos and I saw the clothes .. This supposed collaboration with Warhol is poor and surrealist ! Awful and cheap. 
maybe youths like that … The one with the banana 🍌 ?! It’s not art at all ?! How could they get the authorization to use Wharol pics ?!

Not sure if the personalised book will only be for those who have bought a drawing, but he will confirm this closer to the time.

Thats why I usually don’t bother with Phaidon anymore. 
Also, Kaws sucks.

Lroy, it's for a Museum show in Pittsburgh, at the Warhol museum, which is how they are using the images. The Warhol foundation sold the rights to Artestar years ago (same as Haring, Basquiat etc, likely most uniqlo dead artist collabs).

If you want to look into the Warhol foundation a little, there is a book about it, 'Warhol after Warhol' worth reading. It doesn't exactly paint them in a good light for keeping his reputation intact.

Same as u. It was online more than 20 minutes... i tried with an address to my fam in US or in France both doesn't working. Like u said there is no coincidence.

I had just the same issue, pretty annoying… last release they refunded me as they oversold the signed versions… kaws book’s releases an endless story for me !

Same as u. It was online more than 20 minutes... i tried with an address to my fam in US or in France both doesn't working. Like u said there is no coincidence. 

It was the same also for a drop like this one ( a signed book : was it for Kaws ? I don’t think so )… Anyway, it became available once the signed one were gone. Maybe signed one is just an advertisement to go on the site and maybe they block foreign address.. I don’t know

You don't need to own a drawing Lroy.

My Herron compiling the book, detailing all the 500 portraits that he will do.

He's still working on the drawings, so the book not available yet. 

If you wanted to 'reserve' a book, at this stage, you just e-mail him. I'm sure he will sign it etc for anyone who 'reserves' one.

Completely agree - Russell did make me a similar companion in cardboard to go with my drawing but it was a couple of years after. Would have been nice to have the original the drawing was based on.

It’s something I specifically asked Russell about when I first enquired (as was also interested to display side by side) and this is his exact response.

“The original cardboard models for the drawings are always destroyed so that the drawing exists as its own resolved product.”

Interesting point that Met, hadn't previously considered the 'original' that the drawing based on?

That said, enjoy how each drawing differs, and 'unique' as such, hopefully this will be illustrated in the book of all the portraits.

You also have the option to 'name' each portrait if you buy one of them, so for me enhances the personalization?

I'm a bit fan of these pieces, and own a couple, always fascinated by the detail, and the skill involved, real items of interest.
