Can someone who buys this DS book now please check the copywrite / imprint page, take a pic and post it? My copy is dated from 2022 and I am wondering if this is still the first print run etc
If being released later this month (as referred to on the Rough Trade web page), that book won't be from the first print run.
I would also presume it will no longer be a first edition, given the "Released 20/06/2024" text โ along with the fact the original release was in 2022, and plenty of new additions or corrections could easily have been made during the interval.
Here I am : ( mine is second edition2022 ) Sorry for the double pics [...] [Images rotated for increased reader-friendliness.]
Above: First edition, second printing.
This is mine - it might be the first edition as had it on preorder.

Recommended Art Books, by Lroy on Jun 4, 2024 8:13:20 GMT 1, Thank you met. Well, itโs a bit cheating no ? Even if itโs not โฆ As we all think that itโs a new book from Shrigley and itโs not ( I thought to buy the first edition and printing when I bought it )โฆ Anyway is it changing the โ value โ of the book ? I donโt think so, the first edition are great when itโs a book that havenโt being edited since decades or centuries, with another size, format, color plates, etc .. Of course itโs legal, but well they should tell the people about the printing ( you see, the poster thought yesterday that it was a new book ) , in fact itโs a very commercial affair, taking no risk. ( as the Banksy Wall and Pieces, at the difference that we can find it in all bookstores and other itโs not reserved to Rough Trade, big trust ). Amities.

Recommended Art Books, by John The Badgers on Jun 6, 2024 18:36:45 GMT 1, I'm with kfroms Lroy, the Phaidon book definitely the one I would go for.
Never had a bad book from Phaidon's, always well put together, and great that its signed.
I'm not overly familiar with Emin's work, liking that it gives a real overview of her work.
All the best with making your choice!

Recommended Art Books, by Lroy on Jun 6, 2024 20:59:08 GMT 1, Phaidon orders always cause a certain nervousness- they have a tendency to oversell and then cancel. Hope this is not the case with this one. Phaidon has always had a bad reputation, in France. They were the cheapest art book without quality. It seems that itโs not the same today ( apart about what is denouncing @kdfroms ) even if they can oversell, put a date 3 or 4 months later and put the money aside the bank to make it growing.. They play with our money in fact. I apologize to quote myself, but I made a big mistake : I was thinking of Tascen books ( bad reputation, quickly in sales shops cheaps, etc ) โฆ Sorry lord and ladies, and thank you for your advise : I found this one too, not expensive โฆ
is it a good one ? www.amazon.fr/Tracey-Emin-Jonathan-Jones/dp/1786277085

A few potential reasons
1. When we start buying books like automatons, without really thinking. More out of an impulse to acquire, than a proper desire for a specific book.
2. When we have already accumulated more books than we'll ever have time to read.
3. When we have a habit or ordering multiple copies of the same book, thinking "These would make nice gifts", but only on rare occasions following through with the actual gift‑giving.
4. When we become cognisant of the fact that, after shuffling off this mortal coil, most of our books (even highly-prized, sought‑after publications) will โ out of expediency, especially due to their sheer weight and volume โ likely end up in the recycling‑bin or at a random charity shop.
This, probably as a result of a future decision taken by heirs or an executor, who may be ignorant, uninterested, thoughtless, time‑pressed, emotionally drained, overwhelmed, stressed, or merely distracted by a recent loss in the family.
All of the above scenarios apply to me.
That said, I am still buying books. Even though it is also sabotaging my separate efforts of trying to sort out my Swedish Death Cleaning.

This would only be half of the story.
The business model for Taschen consists of releasing both:
(a) low-cost, typically smaller, mass-market editions; and
(b) higher-value, larger-scale, special and limited edition books (along with limited edition artwork and photographs).
My understanding is that the former partly subsidise the latter, which consist of far more creative and innovative projects.
A favourite Taschen purchase of mine was the original SUMO by Helmut Newton, an edition of 10,000, weighing about 30kg, and accompanied by its own Philippe Starck bookstand.
For fans of Bettina Rheims or Ellen von Unwerth, among the most notable publications by these photographers are those that were released by Taschen.
In recent years, I've picked up XXL versions of books on Da Vinci, Pieter Bruegel the Elder, Rembrandt, Vermeer, and Basquiat. Each is weighty, visually impressive, and of great quality.
Well worth the money. Especially when buying during one of Taschen's twice‑yearly sales.

Happy weekend everyone.
