meltdown..., by runyaga on Mar 29, 2007 15:00:36 GMT 1, looks like POW's website is melting down... completely unresponsive ;-( if its this bad *before* the print is released and with my experience last time with shopping cart problems ADODB errors and the like.. I imagine this meltdown will be a slow and painful experience for everyone..
POW if your listening: get a faster connection, a few more servers and a clued-in consulting firm to help you guys out...
oh my.. i'm already getting internal errors and yes.. meltdown..
""" The request cannot be processed at this time. The amount of traffic exceeds the Web site's configured capacity. """
hahahaha. we are all doomed.. ;-(

meltdown..., by runyaga on Mar 29, 2007 15:06:37 GMT 1, even better, "Bad Request (Invalid Hostname)"
that will make the servers faster *grin*
now authentication boxes prompting me to login..
jeesh...
not to be a p*ick but you guys knew this was going to happen; moved from php/mysql to m$/sqlserver, you hired a consulting firm; drop another 40k GBP to get this resolved.
i'm up for a barter; banksys to unfsck the website..
.. evolution, 'Service Not Available' -- surprisingly fast serving the error message.. ~runyaga

this is all speculation: - They are probably running 1 or 2 iis servers in default configuration other than what ever asp code their consulting firm threw into place. - They arent running a caching server outside of their web server - Being naive with their database
non speculation: - They arent telling upstream cache servers to cache their images
oh oh "Add to Basket" - click the button - empty error page.. nice
brown sepia signed banksy up...

meltdown..., by runyaga on Mar 29, 2007 15:45:06 GMT 1, 30min cookie timeout may be their only option. ..
cookies arent going to help..
the problem is the sheer volume of read/writes in the database..
thats what makes these problems so fun.. it requires a bit of creativity to fix them..
for instance how ticketmaster does it..
everyone clicks a button and the only thing you get a is a token; then you wait in line and individually one by one the tokens are processed..
shopping basket metaphor wont work with this high volume.. it *could* work.. just not a good metaphor.
- Your only allowing one print anyway. - What are you going to do? Put a banksy in your cart and go shop for something else? - No. Your going to get the print in your cart and check the fsck out! - Right now you can think of a cashier with a boat load of people throwing money or trying to check out all at once - That doesnt work in real life and its not going to work on POW w/ Banksy - People need to queue up and wait in an orderly fashion - Like we do in the real world and how ticketmaster and other high volume systems handle the load of purchasing 1000 tickets in < 2 minutes.
Oh btw.. what *will* happen. The website will be in this awful state.. and my cookie *will* expire in 30 minutes.. and it will drop my items from my basket..
this is going to be a mess.. and unfortunately.. it looks like work is calling ... good luck guys!

Heart was going because I was late for work ;-) other than that I was quite pissed throughout the whole experience. This is the second time I've had a problem with POW like this. Once I had JD and 2 Bombers in my basket - fscked me and now Sepia Morons. Just not worth the time. There will always be people who want to pound the buttons -- but fsck that. I have less important things to do..
