Paddle8 Auctions πΊπ² BANKRUPT , by Deleted on Sept 10, 2014 2:56:12 GMT 1, Anybody here have personal experience using Paddle8 they could share?
Thinking to give them a try.
Any warnings, kudos, etc., welcomed.
Agree: really too bad they don't share their results history. Christie's site, on the other hand, is great for that.

I made the mistake my first and only time trying to bid of waiting until the last second to bid. When you put your first bid in they ask you for a bunch of inf. credit cards number etc. so the auction ended before I could get my bid in. It sold for less than I would have paid.

Good to know, could see myself getting caught like that...(the old eBay trick doesn't work!)
I use Yahoo! Auction here in Japan (eBay not very popular). I like their system--though it makes for some late nights: if there is a bid placed in the last 5 minutes of an auction, 10 more minutes get added on to the end time. This continues until no more last-minute bids are entered.

Had no idea it's essentially C2C like eBay, etsy, this Forum, etc.
I see there is a link for condition report. Will try that on a random item just to see what I get.
Thanks for the input so far...valuable to all I think.

I have my first listing on Paddle 8 right now. I was told my piece(s) goes to their NY warehouse for inspection and then gets shipped to buyer.

Paddle8 Auctions πΊπ² BANKRUPT , by Deleted on Sept 10, 2014 14:30:19 GMT 1, Maybe its just with dealers its sent direct, most of the people I know that have consigned works are dealers and have sent direct to the buyer. I wonder who pays the shipping, insurance and import duties if its being sent from the uk etc to the NY warehouse, just curious.

NY warehouse for me as it is the closest, but they do have other warehouses around the world.

Paddle8 Auctions πΊπ² BANKRUPT , by beenrhymin on Sept 10, 2014 15:55:21 GMT 1, They always have great material, but much like your listing (no offense) i think it is overpriced. It seems to be more of a site for retail things disguised as auction rather than auction priced items that get bid up to fair market value. Christies is auction all the way, as is digard (more suited for our material), artnet has a weird mix, where they include a lot of well priced work, but when they put overpriced work up they do it as a "Buy It Now" option (see the Di-faced tenners they have going up tomorrow). All in all i would sya if it is online you are looking for send it to artnet, if it is brick and mortar, go for digard, or christies if it is something more mainstream..... Oh and Phillips seems to do the best of all with the Obey HPM's for some reason....

Oh and Phillips seems to do the best of all with the Obey HPM's for some reason.... I would disagree that it is overpriced. The only other matched number set sold for $4400 back in 2010 when Shepard's values were not where they are today. Print #1 in the set sold twice this year for $1150 and $1450. Print #2 sold this year for $1500. Expressobeans reports a couple individual print sales by the same seller for $350, but those seem to be outliers to me.
The matched numbers only add to the value of the set and $3800 start price seems very fair to me.
My only concern is that I'm unsure if the Paddle 8 listings get enough exposure.

You raise some good points but again 3,800 is the starting i assume your reserve was 5K otherwise they would have lowered the estimate. So assuming 5K plus their 15% commission 5,750 as the first number it will sell at. An auction is meant to start lower and then end up their, but i guess thats fair as they do have much less exposure than christies digard or artnet. Its the same reason they only charge 15%, it kind of goes by how good you are. Christies and Phillips charge 25%, Artnet charges 20% and paddle8 15%.... Paddle8 is at the unfortunate disadvantage of being very young, unlike the others which have been in business for over 20 years and have hard drives full of collectors tastes and habits to email when they are selling work. On the other hand, their site is sexy as hell! Anyways, just my view on this whole scene but feel free to tell me to shove it!

Paddle8 Auctions πΊπ² BANKRUPT , by bonesy on Sept 10, 2014 17:18:48 GMT 1, All good, I think you have a good viewpoint. Reserve for this listing is at $4k and I don't think they would have let me set reserve at their low estimate, though I didn't ask. As they get less exposure I think their game plan of setting the reserve at 80% of their low estimate (and I think their $5-$6k estimate is fair) is a good way for them to conduct business.
I have never heard of Yahoo Japan auctions adding time onto the auction if bids are placed at the end, that's an interesting idea I would like ebay to implement- it makes it more of a true auction setting "going once, going twice, new bidder at the back of the room".

I'm not rubbishing paddle8 but trust me just because theres a bid on works doesn't mean theres actually a bid, an auction house can bid a work up to 1 bid below reserve to create interest in the hope someone will join in in the moment. I never go to auctions or watch live auctions, I don't have the restraint and get carried away, I usually place a bid I'm happy to pay and forget about it, if I get it great, if not I have a look at the not solds, sometimes you can negotiate great aftersales prices...depending on the auction and the seller

Ah, I see. Good point
Why stay away? Clearly people bid on it. I'm not rubbishing paddle8 but trust me just because theres a bid on works doesn't mean theres actually a bid, an auction house can bid a work up to 1 bid below reserve to create interest in the hope someone will join in in the moment. I never go to auctions or watch live auctions, I don't have the restraint and get carried away, I usually place a bid I'm happy to pay and forget about it, if I get it great, if not I have a look at the not solds, sometimes you can negotiate great aftersales prices...depending on the auction and the seller Ah, I see. Good point
