POW Framing service?, by mcnuts on Mar 21, 2007 11:36:50 GMT 1, If one thing this forum is good for, it is speculation. So, with PoW’s immanent launch of a framing service, would you use it? Also, what do you think it will be like?
My guess is that it would have to be cheaper than a regular framer as you should be able to pick various options online. But would people actually want to pick the frames online? Delivery also becomes an issue and add as extra cost.
I’ll be interested to see what the cost of the framing service is like, what “value” is added but frankly am more interested in what’s IN the frame.
PS Wouldn’t a good promotion for their framing service be to only sell the LA banksy’s framed?

POW Framing service?, by corblimeylimey on Mar 21, 2007 11:51:10 GMT 1, It's hard to judge a service which doesn't exist yet, but I do see problems associated with internet framing along the lines you've pointed out, I think I'd rather use my local framer.
LA banksy's only sold framed? it may stop some going straight to ebay but I don't like the idea.

POW Framing service?, by saltandiron on Mar 21, 2007 11:52:35 GMT 1, Have they said that it would only be online? I wouldn;t choose frames online, I like to try lots of different combinations and see what works, and things can look different on the computer to how they look in real life. But I can't imagine that it would be just online.
Would love to see the postage costs on a framed print.

Very true. I just though ti would be interesting to have a bit of speculation we coudl then compare with the "real deal" when it is annoucned. Provides some insight into Chinese whispers and how well we can predict the future

If it wasn't an online service I wouldn't use it either, London is over 170 miles away.

I was also thinking about POW offering a frame service. Its a scary thought.

If POW are struggling to keep up with the orders why would they be after more work by doing a framing service I wonder if its an outside company offering to do the framing and POW just get a cut ;D

POW Framing service?, by dwight on Mar 22, 2007 17:20:26 GMT 1, That was my thought exactly, Silky. The other thought I had is that its devised to help one of their friends go into business framing...
In any case, I don't see it working out too well...for me anyway. Besides, I'm very particular about materials and my framers consult me about every detail. I can't imagine getting the same quality....and, all things considered, I bet it would still be more expensive through pow.

POW Framing service?, by Run Pig Run on Mar 22, 2007 18:03:48 GMT 1, If the frames are exciting as the prints it could be amazing i.e. I would like a red gloss ornate frame but this material doesn't exist in your average framers. If its just you run of the mill black frame with a off-white mount it will be pretty useless to most i would have thought.

POW Framing service?, by BK83 on Mar 22, 2007 19:14:13 GMT 1, online framin really doesn't sound like a great idea at all... it will be interesting to see how it pans out. if the LA banksy prints release are anythin to go by, this framing service may never be launched... which wouldn't entirely be a bad thing either, imo of course....

POW Framing service?, by rickyc on Mar 28, 2007 10:33:09 GMT 1, At the same time though, how many of us have looked at the 'Get Your Banksy's out for the lads' topic, seen a frame and all gone 'wow! I want mine to look like that'
I think if they take a print, create 3 or4 frame templates, and actually post the photos of the finished version, people may be a bit more responsive.
I know I've looked at people prints on the 'Banksy's/lads' post and thought 'wow, my grannies could be framed like that'. But I'm lazy, and it hasn't happened yet. If POW gave me the option to frame it for me, chances are I would've accepted it.

POW Framing service?, by Curley on Mar 28, 2007 10:47:53 GMT 1, Personally i prefer bespoke framing, i like to take my time, trying different borders, glass etc. i like the idea that my framed print is individual ;D
If they are offering the same choice as my frame shop but cheaper and faster it maybe of interest however if its Nielson frames or standard wood frames it will be for the lazy and unimaginative.
I hope they prove me wrong by having some awesome frames that no one else has but i some how i think it will be fairly standard stuff.
Then the delivery cost will be interesting.

POW Framing service?, by fautebol on Mar 28, 2007 11:14:42 GMT 1, I don't live in the UK, thus shipment will certainly be difficult. But, I think framing service could be terrific if the artists give inputs and both services are totally integrated. If this service is like your local framer, it's totally useless IMHO and simply something to make more money.
But, if you have frames proposed or designed by the artists it's just a fantastic idea. I trust that the artist is simply the best to give an option how to frame it or how he would or how you could fame it. I believe that Framing is an important part of a piece of art. You can disagree with the artist and prefer something else, but if artists propose options, it would be fantastic. Let's see if we can have some frames that smell the street.
