Banksy reindeer in Birmingham, by drip on Dec 9, 2019 22:44:36 GMT 1, If you live in any major UK city, and you walk for even 5 minutes through the city centre, you really shouldn't need artwork to show you there's a homeless issue out there. The actual homeless people should do that.
And another thing. Even if enough social housing existed (and it doesn't), this isn't an issue that can be fixed by chucking every homeless person and beggar into a flat and saying 'Enjoy!'. There's a whole multitude of issues that can lead a person down the path to rough sleeping or begging. You've got addiction issues, physical health issues, mental health issues, communication issues, flat-out poverty issues. People need a massive safety net of support and assistance to, not just get a place to live in, but to be able to keep it, thrive in it.
Austerity has cut so many services to the bone. People are working multiple jobs to make ends meet. People in work are reliant on benefits to make ends meet. Reliant on food banks for support. What does this kind of strain do to mental health? To keeping on top of bills? What does that do with regards to substance abuse? And once you're homeless, the extreme cold, medical neglect and danger of violence aside, how's your mental health going to fare then? Your use of alcohol of drugs? Then try accessing services and getting back on your feet again. Life in society can be really fcking hard. So many of us can fall through the cracks so easily. It doesn't take much to pull everything out from under you. And many of us didn't have much to begin with.
You cut services to save money, and you just kick the problem further down the road. You drop a whole bunch of pain onto people, you literally kill people, and then put even more strain onto your health service and police service. Something has to change.

Another homeless person loses their spot
No sleep now
Last few xmas staff parties when it's snowing and cold in London I think about the homeless stuck all night in that weather, I've been gifting , leaving warm clothes in homeless spots this year..the good thing around my way , a lot of Sikh charities providing hot meals every night for the homeless. Shallow that art has to bring attention to this when this is on your doorstep unlike the other banksy project which is abroad, many people chose to walk by and ignore .

Banksy reindeer in Birmingham, by fuzzed on Dec 9, 2019 23:05:14 GMT 1, I think the concept of the image as a whole is powerful and makes you think. once you break it down- it seems extremely staged- but i suppose that is part of the art. Was Ryan sitting there the whole time while they painted it? Did he say- hey man can I film you for a video real quick. Just gonna make a little joke out of where you are sleeping. Or is Ryan someone else... Is the Brainwash image from ETTGS?

Banksy reindeer in Birmingham, by Terry Fuckwitt on Dec 9, 2019 23:45:23 GMT 1, I think it's another fantastic work. Anything that brings awareness to the masses of homelessness can only be a good thing. My youngest daughter who was 11 last year decided that she wanted to hand out mince pies to the homeless in our town just before Christmas. After a chat, we decided that we would make up some gift bags to hand out. Her head teacher was very touched so also helped by supplying cereal bars and snacks. We bought a load of gloves, scarves and hats as well as food and drinks and she wondered round the town with my partner just before Christmas handing them out. Didn't take a lot of effort to sort, but the appreciation of the homeless was quite overwhelming to her.

Let me have these reindeer pull this blight from my site.

Its enough for this work to be a success. If it takes a banksy work for you to look and think about the homeless then you may want to expand your horizons. Just saying... You are misinterpreting what CMC said to propagate your narrative. Nobody said they need Banksy to think about the homeless. This particular work, as is usually the case with Banksy, has quickly created international press and the sharing of the work on Facebook. The word the press uses is poignant.
My belief is that people for the most part are aware of the homeless and have empathy for the homeless - the more reminders the better, particularly during a month of heightened shows of capitalism.

It comes across as the old oh banksy is enlightening the world. Sure he does have works that bring attention to lesser known subjects. But this is not one of them.
Literally every church, charity, organization in the world focuses on the homeless at Christmas time.

Again, you literally enjoy being the contrarian creating a false narrative for no reason other than smug self satisfaction - an odd form of public masturbation, I don’t know about the UK/Europe but in the US the homeless problem worsens every year, despite what the churches, charities etc do. One would think that the more attention to this problem the better, and Banksy is one of many that can draw this attention. If a few wallets are opened due to things like this and what others do that is a good thing.

Yes creating a false narrative.
Kind of like creating a staged homeless video with an actor?
Banksy has wonderful works that enlighten many to important issues. However this work is not one of them and falls flat on its face.

Perhaps Banksy has been homeless in the past and can empathise with those that are currently in that predicament. Stik was. Even if 10% of the 6.9million IG users even acknowledge and help out a local homeless person it would make an enormous difference. If you are concerned about a homeless person in your area (UK) street link are very helpful, but its always best to talk with the person before calling them to ensure that its appropriate for them and won't scare them.
