The shot by Nick Stern is just a cutesy photographic reenactment of Banksy's painting. It is not a source image for that painting.

Original inspiration for Banksy Images, by biglebowski on Oct 31, 2019 23:07:22 GMT 1, This is such a fantastic thread thanks for sharing.
So does Banksy sketch from hand based on pre-existing images and then make his own changes to them, or does he manipulate images in photoshop and then create a blown up stencil from that?
Some of these images are so like for like in so many ways (specifically the assassination and follow your dreams), I can only guess is it just photoshop effects with some hand sketching incorporated? Would love to know more so I can have a go at executing some ideas myself!

Yes that could be. I was thinking he prints off the image and uses tracing paper and then draws on top the new elements. Some of them are so identical to their original I would be surprised if it was freehand

Original inspiration for Banksy Images, by met on Nov 10, 2019 19:03:40 GMT 1, This message is aimed at members who may agree with the following position:
An image without context is a wasted learning opportunity.
__________
If you're thinking about contributing to the thread, in addition to Banksy's source material, consider also including:
1. Name and perhaps nationality / country of origin of fine artist, photographer or filmmaker
2. Name of artwork, photograph or film, where applicable
3. Date of creation or release
4. Other details which could be interesting to someone who's ignorant about the source. For example (to the extent applicable):
(i) dimensions; (ii) current location; (iii) historical context, background information, curious anecdotes; and/or (iv) links to relevant web pages.
__________
It's worth reminding ourselves that forum visitors are diverse — including in terms of their age, level of art-history and political-history knowledge, and cultural reference points.
While most here are likely to recognise a still from Pulp Fiction, that may not be the case for absolutely everyone. Especially since the film was released in 1994, before some members were even born.
A fortiori, how many of us are familiar with an artist like Jacques-Louis David, the period in which he painted, or the title of simply one of his paintings?
And query how many members would recognise an old photo showing the aftermath of a few people (including a US President) getting shot, and then say to themselves, "Yeah, that's what happens when you try to impress Jodie Foster."
__________
Providing this kind of additional information will clearly take far more time than just posting photos.
But there's potentially an educational benefit for everyone when we push ourselves to make greater efforts and to scratch beneath the surface.

Cannot actually remember but this was a classic pic from it As I remember there is also a pic of the guy who did it as he was putting it on. This pic and the situation/event also explains the title of the piece

Original inspiration for Banksy Images, by Terry Fuckwitt on Nov 13, 2019 17:25:24 GMT 1, The 'Silent Highway' - Man. 'Your money or your life'. Cartoon published in Punch magazine, 10 July 1858, No. 35. This cartton refers to the problems caused by the very hot summer of 1858. The summer heat together with a very high level of sewage and pollution, caused a very bad smell coming from the river Thames. This cartoon depicts the allegorical figure of death rowing a boat on the polluted and foggy river where dead animals float by. Death is here associated with pollution and disease. St. Paul's Cathedral can be seen side by side with a smoky factory in the distance.
Originally painted on the side of the Thekla Social boat moored in Bristol Harbour in 2003, the decision was taken to remove the work to protect it from damage and wear and it is now on display in Bristol's M Shed (on long term loan from The Thekla).

Original inspiration for Banksy Images, by moron on Nov 18, 2019 20:45:32 GMT 1, Banksy is a bull-shitter. In other words Banksy promoted himself blatantly by hijacking a Basquiat painted image and added massive amounts of virtue signalling text to make out he is switched on.
It is so sad that Banksy resorts to judging people on appearance as I'm sure that the Barbican would be wary of any color drug enabled person who looks poor and scruffy.
Basquiat came from a wealthy and connected family. Who had the money to send him to a private art school. Saint Annes school Brooklyn. ( Annual tuition as of 2019 is between $43,000 and $49,000 depending on grade level )
Basquiat made himself homeless but still had his families connections.
""In 1979, Basquiat appeared on the live public-access television show TV Party hosted by Glenn O'Brien, and the two started a friendship. Basquiat made regular appearances on the show over the next few years. That same year, Basquiat formed the noise rock band Test Pattern – which was later renamed Gray – which played at Arleen Schloss's open space, "Wednesdays at A's".[19] In October 1979, at the same club, Basquiat showed his SAMO montages using color Xerox copies of his works.
Other members of Gray included Shannon Dawson, Michael Holman, Nick Taylor, Wayne Clifford and Vincent Gallo, and the band performed at nightclubs such as Max's Kansas City, CBGB, Hurrah and the Mudd Club. In 1980, Basquiat starred in O'Brien's independent film Downtown 81, originally titled New York Beat. That same year, Basquiat met Andy Warhol at a restaurant.""
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean-Michel_Basquiat
Basquiat was working hard, was educated, multi lingual, was talented and was connected. There is no way a black or white drug enabled street person would get anywhere near Andy Warhols table and say hello without being connected to the right people.
Banksy's virtue signalling to promote himself is getting really boring.

Interesting, it just looks very cheesy and unresearched relative to most other pieces
