Banksy Black Spray Can, Gross Domestic Product™, by Forbidden Love on Jun 16, 2020 22:56:54 GMT 1, It says so on this forum.... so it must be true.. it is fine if they sell for 5k if that is what a person wants to pay , two more rounds of gdp to come , no edition numbers put on these cans , so unknown quantity to come The box sets when first came out were selling for 6-7k , how much is the average price now ? £550? Not in the slightest the same thing as the box set. The box sets were put together by locals around the WOH. Being always available.
The cans are painted, signed, clearly more limited and not available to go and buy.

Yes, good point. While I am no professional and I have not submitted my can to a specialized laboratory for paint/oil residue sampling/comparison, I can say it appears that the writing is uniquely hand written. I have compared my can with other cans posted by owners and it also appears that each can is uniquely different in detail although the method of application of paint and writing and material is the same.
Going back to the GDP website the description is listed as:
"It might look like Banksy has torn the label off an old can of paint, written his name on it, and is trying to market it as a brand new product (just to prevent a paint company from getting there first) – but that is certainly not what’s happened, no. This is trademarked Banksy paint, an exciting new addition to the world of branded wall coverings."
Source: shop.grossdomesticproduct.com/collections/frontpage/products/banksy-black
So by the official website's own conviction it is hand written by Banksy himself. This is significant in establishing relevance amongst ALL of his creations. Anything he has ever personally handled and signed has always gone for a premium predetermined price and has always retained its value. So comparing it to anything that does not have his personal touch and only his personal blessing (manufactured by someone/something/somewhere else) is comparing things on two different planes of existence.
We could speculate on why this is from now until the end of the universe but I personally believe the reason is clear: Banksy is one of the most prolific contemporary artists of the modern era that exists today. To own something, to own anything with that has been personally handled by him is a small real connection to his work, his purpose, his message, and his vision. Cheers!

Banksy Black Spray Can, Gross Domestic Product™, by vyrsace on Jun 16, 2020 23:29:02 GMT 1, Oh here's another detail that people have overlooked.
First take a look at the Banksy Black posted on their website:
and look at this real world image of the Gross Domestic Product store display in South London:
(The image resolution appears very small in this forum so the Source URL is i.pinimg.com/originals/f2/60/3c/f2603c2c99a5885f7abf17709b7a8c0c.png)
Do you see the difference? The one on the site is a can that has been covered in black marker or black paint that has been brushed on and the real-world ones on display are splattered with black paint. The one I own and the ones that I have seen others have received are all of the latter, splattered black paint with no visible brush marks. Why did they do this? No clue. Maybe it was a design choice and the website photoshoot was done before Banksy decided to do it differently? Who knows.
This discrepancy can be important in attempting to validate this as there are two contradictory points of official reference although I assume only one is genuinely accurate (the splattered paint). Thought you guys would like to know that in case the discussion arises for later. Also maybe if someone was to receive one officially from GDP that looked like the first picture then maybe that one was a truly one of a kind one and the rarest of them all...? Haha Cheers!

Screenshots of conversations by reputable sources that can be accredited? Read through the first GDP thread its in there somewhere Actually, your copy/paste seems fine enough as it fits the standard message format they corresponded me with. What I feel is notable in that email is the "if items become available" in the sentence
"If you were not able to register first time round, you will have the opportunity to do so in the future; if new items become available on the website."
I know this might seem ironic if you or anyone has been following my recent posts as I have criticized cynicism but my reasoning for doubt is founded on the premise that GDP was created for a very specific and particular sole purpose: to defend Banksy's trademark in the EU for a hostile takeover. He created specific items in certain legal "categories" to fulfill trademark obligations, hence why he has a "purse" (the brick) which was for fashion, and the security cameras was for either children products, safety/security, or technology, the clock and plate and glassware was for homewares, the shirts was for clothing, etc. etc. This clear intention was communicated by arts lawyer Mark Stephens
Source: The Guardian - "Banksy launches homewares shop in dispute over trademark" URL: www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2019/oct/01/banksy-launches-homewares-shop-in-dispute-over-trademark
“Banksy is in a difficult position,” he said. “Because he doesn’t produce his own range of shoddy merchandise and the law is quite clear – if the trademark holder is not using the mark, then it can be transferred to someone who will.”
Stephens proposed that Banksy begin his own range of merchandise and open a shop as a solution to the issue.
Also, in previous posts I explained the cost of shipping alone was 3.5x the cost I paid and that doesn't include the logistics/packaging company (Flight Logistics), the GDP staff, the website, Banksy's time and effort, etc. So I would estimate that the real production cost was 10x the total cost of sale. So if you apply those terms in context of scale it would never make sense or be financially feasible to produce something EN MASSE at a 10x the cost loss.
My personal assumption is that any commitments stated in email or on the site are loose at best and that the EU court case which is due in fall will dictate if his trademark can continue without production. If it can without production then I would argue that its over because why would he take such a loss regularly for no other purpose? And regardless of how many people say "BUT YOU SAID YOU WOULD PROBABLY RELEASE MORE" it won't matter.

To be honest I can't remember what they said but for sure they said something about a second round.
Also something about rich collectors will have a chance in another round or something like that.
It would be posted somewhere in the original first thread that was posted up here.

I'm not sure you understand how Banksy works. He's not a business man, he is everything but.
Take dismaland for an example, £5 a ticket to gain entry to something that would have cost hundreds of thousands to put together and run for that duration. That ticket price probably just covered the fees for the ticket agents. He could have charged £30 a ticket and still sold out every day. He's a modern day Robin Hood, the wealthy pay for some of us peasants to have a good day out and enjoy a bit of art. I think the can will be limited, but its sold as unlimited, so who knows! I think it's a fuckin great thing to own, it cost the price of two beers, what's not to like. It's a shame it always comes back to the value(£'s) though.

This is exactly what I have been saying in my previous posts.
- I've said the cost of sale is 1/10th the cost of production, which doesn't make sense from a business standpoint. This supports the idea of him not continuing to produce items EN MASSE at such a loss. I'm not rejecting the fact that he could potentially release more items through GDP but the context was about quantity and scarcity. The question is: Did he make 10? 50? 100? 100,000? 10,000,000? It did say UNLIMITED right? Well, take a step back and we have to assess the feasibility which is pretty dismal considering the known costs and the reasonably assumed costs. - I also agree that the "Limited" and "Unlimited" designations were probably an irony play by him and that it means nothing. I bet the cans are Limited.
Actually, your copy/paste seems fine enough as it fits the standard message format they corresponded me with. What I feel is notable in that email is the "if items become available" in the sentence "If you were not able to register first time round, you will have the opportunity to do so in the future; if new items become available on the website." I know this might seem ironic if you or anyone has been following my recent posts as I have criticized cynicism but my reasoning for doubt is founded on the premise that GDP was created for a very specific and particular sole purpose: to defend Banksy's trademark in the EU for a hostile takeover. He created specific items in certain legal "categories" to fulfill trademark obligations, hence why he has a "purse" (the brick) which was for fashion, and the security cameras was for either children products, safety/security, or technology, the clock and plate and glassware was for homewares, the shirts was for clothing, etc. etc. This clear intention was communicated by arts lawyer Mark Stephens Source: The Guardian - "Banksy launches homewares shop in dispute over trademark"URL: www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2019/oct/01/banksy-launches-homewares-shop-in-dispute-over-trademark“Banksy is in a difficult position,” he said.
? I'm so confused. Banksy Black Spray Can, Gross Domestic Product™, by vyrsace on Jun 17, 2020 1:30:11 GMT 1, ? I'm so confused. If you’re going to sell it then just get on with it. I’m not sure the endless analysis of why they’re so limited is strictly necessary, unless that’s part of the enjoyment for you.
This is exactly why Banksy says art is a sham. Sad.

Banksy Black Spray Can, Gross Domestic Product™, by art4all on Jun 17, 2020 8:17:31 GMT 1, £5,8,15,20k (figures I've seen speculated/offered/mentioned) spray cans. A. Fucking. Spray. Can. £10,000-60,000 prints in their hundreds or thousand without signature. Covid 19. The end is nigh. Madness those prices flying around for an unlimited spray can, whats next a Banksy signed brick! I do remember some charity 'brick' auctions back in the time at Artcurial...

Banksy Black Spray Can, Gross Domestic Product™, by Coach on Jun 17, 2020 9:03:56 GMT 1, vyrsace why not just enjoy your good fortune in being offered the can instead of hyping its rarity and value. I don’t think you have posted about anything else! Many, myself included, were hopeful of being able to buy a can, and were not so fortunate. The more I read, the more my delight that a forum member got one is waning. I recommend buying a Perspex box and enjoy looking at it.

Banksy Black Spray Can, Gross Domestic Product™, by Terry Fuckwitt on Jun 17, 2020 11:34:45 GMT 1, I'm not sure you understand how Banksy works. It's a shame it always comes back to the value(£'s) though. www.google.co.uk/amp/s/news.artnet.com/exhibitions/banksy-dismaland-30-million-tourism-335447/amp-pageYou would be surprised 5-10 million generated for dismaland alone M T-shirt’s £20 each ,most people buying 4 , Jeff Gillette posters £10 average buying 4 , programme £5 , commission on artists works ,fees from food stands or % of sales , vip prints sold upstairs , the evening party tickets cost more?old pow prints sold in the shop , pumpkin photos £15 each ?. No question, it brought in needed money and a boost for WSM. Selling tshirts and programmes etc though were just to help support the show. He did the same for Walled Off Hotel, he's not making money from that either. Selling the VIP prints to the wealthy is the point I was making. By doing that, he can subsidy the other stuff for the normal folk. What I'm trying to say in response to vyrsace saying Banksy can't keep releasing these cans at a loss, well yes he could if he wanted to.
It's a shame it always comes back to the value(£'s) though. www.google.co.uk/amp/s/news.artnet.com/exhibitions/banksy-dismaland-30-million-tourism-335447/amp-pageYou would be surprised 5-10 million generated for dismaland alone M T-shirt’s £20 each ,most people buying 4 , Jeff Gillette posters £10 average buying 4 , programme £5 , commission on artists works ,fees from food stands or % of sales , vip prints sold upstairs , the evening party tickets cost more?old pow prints sold in the shop , pumpkin photos £15 each ?. Rental of the lido was free , shrewd businessman No question, it brought in needed money and a boost for WSM. Selling tshirts and programmes etc though were just to help support the show.
