Banksy Welcome Mat, by JockoLad on Oct 20, 2019 17:24:57 GMT 1, Let me make it clear for ayauashca, jaygo and denzil, I couldn't give two hoots about free publicity, I got an early call about the mats and bought it to support the charity, never had plans to sell or profit from it. After it was confirmed I thought what's the point in me sticking it in drawer as I'm not going to frame it. A few weeks back I'd met up with one of the founders of Lucy's trust, he's a friend and I went to school with his partner who gave up veterinary practice to rescue dogs/animals, mostly abuse cases. To receive government funding they have to open to the public but wont/can't because of bite risk. They do this for love of the animals regardless and any help means alot, they put everything into it. They're friends, I wanted to help them. The mat could have been sold to someone else and that would've been the end of it. I helped in the only way I can by using my platform to raise some money, so far it's at ยฃ1600,fantastic, hopefully it brings some more attention to both charities and raises some more funds. Thanks to those that supported, thank you. To the keyboard warriors blow me. If it makes you feel any better, all of my attempts at art are objectively bad!

I wasn't actually offered one early it was just flagged up to me early prior to being out of stock and I bought it to support the charity, it was a split second decision, no great amount of thought in it tbh, only after I bought it I thought I'm not actually going to display it so might as well do something useful with it. But yes life's too short for this nonsense. Hope the ones in charge clean this place up a bit, pity a few ruin it for the majority.

I apologize if I misunderstood your reference to grabbing it early. I'm also sorry you were just chased off. I know many feel like you're a valuable part of this community and I hope you come back after taking a very short break. When people like you leave it allows the folks who spoil things intentionally to win the day.
I know your intentions were/are good here but you may be better served by allowing someone on the waitlist to grab a spot. I think the charitable nature of the purchase changes the usual rules a little bit and that might be what people are upset by. xo

Why so much hatred for Andy? I've had dealings with him like many here and he's always been sound. If it's just over this mat, it seems a bit OTT. Long time member here has flipped two on ebay already for big money to line his own stinkin pockets and there's hardly a mention of it.

I feel like weโve fully expressed that this piece is a winwin for charity and Banksy fans so I thought it might be okay to show some excitement about this.

But yes life's too short for this nonsense. Hope the ones in charge clean this place up a bit, pity a few ruin it for the majority. I apologize if I misunderstood your reference to grabbing it early. I'm also sorry you were just chased off. I know many feel like you're a valuable part of this community and I hope you come back after taking a very short break. When people like you leave it allows the folks who spoil things intentionally to win the day. I know your intentions were/are good here but you may be better served by allowing someone on the waitlist to grab a spot. I think the charitable nature of the purchase changes the usual rules a little bit and that might be what people are upset by. xo

He buys art and he sells it. I see nothing wrong with that as weirdly I buy most of my art from galleries.
He bought a mat and is auctioning it for a charity. Again cannot see anything wrong with that.
His Mat his choice.
Itโs not the first time he has donated a piece and raised money for a charity.
He did a Banksy Flags raffle s few years ago we all entered and someone won and a good amount was raised.
I have bought from Andy a number of times and in each case it has been excellent.
Now if people do not believe he is a good Gallery donโt buy from him
If you donโt like his charity sell donโt enter
Not sure what the motivations are of those slagging him off are
But I suppose what shouts louder than them are the fact that everyone who has bought from him or been helped by him like me have not a negative word to say about the experience.
When one considers the number of instances over the years on people being ripped off or not getting the piece they bought or it not being in the condition described it seems very weird people are slagging a Gallery and long term member who has never done any of it.
