Definitely need to be careful regarding where and when they were obtained but there are certainly more than 10 out there. I seem to recall someone on here even giving them away at the time. 
If one were inclined I’m not sure they would necessarily be any harder to fake than the double ones but they’ve always flown a bit under the radar for collectors for some reason.

I do have photos of me with Tom, Dick and Harry at that show for provenance. I think I was 2nd in the queue that day... I miss the old Stolen Space venue and they had some  great exhibitions there. Many a beer and beigal were enjoyed queuing by the Brewery 

In all seriousness, I still have the Mudwig print i picked up whilst spending all my money chasing the Dface one. I could use that as COA? 

But I do have the C215 print, which is pretty scary but glad I got it now as I rate his work

As the image it comes from would have been copied from one with lines across it?

I own both a folded and an unfolded and have owned them for many many years and they are on identical papers .. The type of paper would be a give away?

Fold lines could be retouched out easy with photoshop

It’s the other way around...the first fake unfolded would have been copied from an unfolded.

The folded is actually much harder to fake, as the Don’t Panic pack envelope and contents is actually really hard to replicate and is a de facto provenance.

As the price of Banksy ephemera increase, buyers looking to add a ‘FUOT’ should look to buy from someone with the relevant pack as proof of authenticity.

It looks like its 'Carbon dating' on the paper on the unfolded ones then? 

Although when you put the folded and unfolded next to each other they are identical in finish/printing quality/colours/paper thickness and type ... literally dopplegangers apart from the fold lines and image on the back.

I bought the poster of that install. Was one of the highlights of the show

For those really liking / needing this image - you should know that Banksy had jacked this praying boy imagery from another artist called Rene Gagnon - and got caught and called out for it (and the reason why it never became an official print release).
The Rene Gagnon print is more rare to find yet still cheaper than the folded print I believe!

You could probably get it repaired. I'v reconsidered a few times having mine restored/flattened out as much as possible, but end up leaving it be for for posterity's sake.

Have the two or three points highlighted above in red been confirmed by a credible source, including the original intention by Banksy to release Forgive Us Our Trespassing as an official print?


I myself have no idea what actually happened. But embracing the charge of plagiarism in this instance presumably requires us to also accept the following as fact:

1.  Around 2008–10 (i.e. The Cans Festival, The Village Pet Store and Charcoal Grill, massive NYC rat murals in collaboration with Colossal Media, multiple other high-profile street pieces, Banksy vs Bristol Museum exhibition, and Exit Through the Gift Shop documentary) — at a time when he was already a superstar contemporary artist and arguably without peer on the street art scene (in terms of the combined package of prolificness, diversity of output, commercial success and notoriety) — Banksy was keeping an eye on Rene Gagnon, of all people.

2.  Despite having never previously demonstrated any shortfall of ideas, and notwithstanding the predictably intense level of scrutiny his work had become subject to, Banksy was still prepared to risk tainting his reputation by brazenly biting a fellow artist.

All probable and logical points, as you say we don't know or probably never will for sure. But Banksy does appropriate imageries as part of his work a lot, and maybe like MBW he really liked it and assumed no one would know because RG wasn't as big or think to accuse him of plagiarism? There are two sides to a pancake, no matter how thin it is...!

And here is what mostly muddies the water to Banksy's "innocence" here for me:

-I remember reading somewhere that Rene Gagnon said Banksy reached out to apologize saying it was a google coincidence as you mention, but then kept reusing the image. But why reach out to RG to apologize and then keep using the imagery of another artist?
-Brainwash also stole (or had the same idea years later) the Tomato spray cans from RG for his LA show (as seen in Exit Through the Gift Shop).

These two coincidences happening around the same time with both works becoming major pieces of MBW and Banksy...

I gave many of these away . I remember trolling through the local shops day after day.

They are going for about £250 now for poster. Though, there are less and less of them remaining and prices are going up. Condition, of course is a main factor, but also presence of Don't panic pack and inserts can significantly increase price, up to £500. Over £500, I would consider overpriced.
