I remember when this was (v. unofficially) for sale for £250k... I think in about 2009. The price was only so high back then because B didn't really want to part with it. I always thought one day it would be worth a lot more.

I'm expecting the monkeys in the painting to do some sort of monkeying around on the day of the auction. Let's hope they don't "dissolve parliament" - it would be a shame to see the painting half-melted.

My guess is it will sell for over £4m this time around.

I did not notice the more subtle changes in the re-worked version, such as the banana turned the other way around, or the change in wooden post.

The comment from Andipa is really worth thinking about. "He added he would only be convinced the painting was unique if he could examine the canvas himself using an ultraviolet light that would show up any reworkings."

That is the right approach to take given the propensity of the artist for pranks. I'm starting to think this is not the original painting, for the following reasons:

1. The obvious (and subtle) changes
2. Sothebys mysterious lack of description of the changes
3. The description "Oil paint and digital print, 2009". So why the digital print? Is it underneath? That would make it much easier to make a second painting with a few alterations.
4. Sothebys. October. 2018.

One of the comments from the article is "Prediction: The painting will get darker and darker as Brexit gets closer." I think that's a pretty good guess. Or perhaps the painting with "devolve" in some other manner?

It would be uncharacteristically predictable of Banksy for there to be another stunt at the same auction house. Its not uncommon for Banksy to rework originals at a later date.

Probably pretty good. Assuming this was painted by another person besides Banksy, then lets assume Banksy is a decent enough guy to actually pay them, and assuming that he could of paid him reasonably well, then perhaps in 2009 this other painter could have very well made enough money of this alone to put a deposit down for a house, thats pretty cool. Perhaps Banksy even tipped him a small stencilled canvas or even a couple of prints, maybe even a nice little quick biro rat drawing. 

Maybe Banksy will even tip him a tiny bit from the ARR, i think thats like 4 percent isint it, lets assume this hits £2 million, thats £80,000 in ARR, if banksy tipped the guy again 10 percent of that, thats a conservatory on the back of the house Banksy has already helped pay for. Lets assume it was a man who painted it, pretty sure the wife will be happy with a new conservatory and maybe a nice meal on date night.

 It does look like it was painted by a theatre scenery painter. Hence the large size and the flat brushwork.
Sothebys does say in the description, "it was created" in so and so rather than it wa spainted by Banksy in so and so. Created implies it was made to order. I don't think the person who painted it has a problem as they were paid to do a job and what happens after shouldn't matter too much. Of course they can always reveal themselves and say they painted this to order, if they have not signed some sort of privacy clause contract in blood with the art devil known as brand Banksy.

   Salvador Dali employed a very talented Spanish artist to paint his large 50's 60's canvases for him.

Probably won't ever know if he came up with the idea and I frankly I doubt many people care except if its attributed to him. Much like Damien Hirst and many other artists, Koons etc. They employ other artists to create their concepts and the collectors are happy enough to buy knowing this.

If you have the chance go to the Sotheby's preview. The set up for the Banksy is great - own room, metal detector at the entrance and benches like in the Parliament.

I guess this will go north of 5 Million.

And if you go check out the de Kooning on display. Stunning.

Looking at the Visitors' Gallery in this artwork, one could argue that the British electorate is perceived in a similar fashion.

This is my favourite piece of his and I went to view it yesterday.
I loved the additional green parliamentary benches on each side to give extra effect

Also had a browse through the auction catalogue and saw a fold out of Devolved Parliament inside and good couple of pages dedicated to this piece there's lso a roy lichtenstein fold out as well plus andy warhol vesuvius and 2 others. It's £30 to buy at reception, not availble online and only available until tomorrow.

Anyone think it will beat Kaws $14.7 mil? I'll go out on a limb and say yes. (not likely, but I will be cheering it on.)
Hopefully its massive size will make it more desirable to a museum than private collection.
