Banksy Grappling Hook, by reeder77 on Aug 10, 2023 3:17:57 GMT 1, Looking to purchase a grappling hook by banksy. I realize the market is soft. But if someone is out there and needs to move one, I’m a buyer
For my personal collection. Just always have loved the aura of the piece.

Banksy Grappling Hook, by Gunny on Apr 17, 2024 18:52:49 GMT 1, Grappling Hook sold today at ArtCurial for 92k euro hammer - so prob about 125k euro all in, so about £100k.
In a really shite market all round and for Banksy also, not a bad result, considering the market is at the bottom!

Banksy Grappling Hook, by Fuzzyduck121 on May 2, 2024 15:14:22 GMT 1, I suspect the bounce will be slow to materialise for the editions market in general and until Banksy either gains institutional recognition or falls into a familiar pattern assigned to AAA rated artists that have a long term market, in terms of collections held, representation etc its going to be an uphill battle to ever claw back the gains of the last few years.
Anyone under the impression there is pent up demand from would be buyers and liquidity ready to pour in once values hit a certain level are mistaken in my personal view.
I say this as a collector and significant holder

Anyone under the impression there is pent up demand from would be buyers and liquidity ready to pour in once values hit a certain level are mistaken in my personal view. I say this as a collector and significant holder I don’t disagree that it’s unlikely we’ll see anywhere near the levels achieved at the peak in real terms, probably again. Likewise when the recovery materialises (and I think it will) it will likely be slow and steady growth assuming his market is properly managed.
I don’t agree that he needs institutional acceptance or blue chip representation. He’s built a following and fanbase much bigger than the majority of represented artists, albeit perhaps his collector base is not as stable or his market as well managed. I struggle to think of an artist alive or dead who can pull a crowd like Banksy and whilst he’s a big part of the public consciousness once macro economics improve I believe the size and value of his market will stay healthy. Obviously times and tastes change but think we are a long way off from him falling out of favour

Obviously times and tastes change but think we are a long way off from him falling out of favour Lots of fans but fans don't necessarily equate to investors. Investors spend based on faith and confidence. Blue Chip representation would bring that to investors but it doesn't feel right for B, i can't see him travelling that road. Doesn't seem the type that likes being told what to do for starters. The Banksy market is made up of small time galleries and dealers who aren't known at all in the scheme of things, most rose with the artist. All are small fish in a very big pond. If Pest Control operated well, with a capable team and were involved in the market out side of selling primary work they don't want back, that would instill a confidence and drive the market. They have the influence/stature. They could potentially control their own market. But they don't appear to have interest and that leaves small time dealers and galleries with nobody in charge really. Nobody steering the ship. None of the major galleries have any interest in getting involved, why would they. The artist is highly unlikely to go down the route of representation from Gagosian etc and the secondary markets too volatile, too much drama, it's uncontrolled , with very small margins for it to interest them. Much easier and safer for them to sell and promote their own artists they have built relationships with. The majority of old market buyers(effectively the backbone/bulk of the market) stepped out by 2020. The market was starting to outgrow the old market buyers largely. I do feel a lot will step back in but hard to know at what price point. The buyers that paid the crazy sums have seen potential loses of 80+% in some cases so we can rule those out largely as future buyers. That leaves us with the old market buyers and any new interest. Old market buyers won't step back in where they stepped out. Also they already have Banksys, maybe enough in some cases. Many will have been put off by PC, how they operate generally, lack of communication etc New buyers/interest will come for sure. A small number will spend 50k/100k maybe even 1mill just because they like it and aren't worried about loosing it. The majority will take a considered approach before spending their kids inheritance. I think we'll likely see the market separate. Quality/rarity/image will be a bigger factor than before, as it is with any top tier artists market. Long term he's cemented in the history books. Shorter term who knows. I guess the unknown/what happens next has always been part of the allure with this artist.

Banksy Grappling Hook, by zoomrider on Oct 11, 2024 20:29:08 GMT 1, If it was legal he would not be the one benefiting from all the money… the government would. But the whole charade continues!
Interesting story! Likelihood is this guy was a member here! Anyone sell their grappling hook? 😄
”Police also searched the home of […] partner […] and recovered a Banksy mosaic. The court heard she allowed £22,000 to pass through her account.”
Anyone know what “Banksy mosaic” this might be referring to? 🤔

I was wondering about the mosaic too. Probably an invader kit or something and they haven't got a clue.
