I live in the Chicago area. Thanks for the heads up. The gallery name sounds familiar but I've never been. Nice selection on their website. Might have to stop in and check this out!

Visit CHICAGO πΊπ² Street Art, Galleries, Events, by bsimkin on May 6, 2011 17:01:12 GMT 1, Hey peeps! I spent over 3 hours at Art Chicago last weekend. Saw the Obey Revoultions exhibition. Some of the smaller album covers were still available for 2,000 a pop (editions of 8).
Saw some pretty cool stuff overall. Street art wise, a gallery had a Mr Brainwash 'Madonna.' Kinda surprised and Disappointed not to see anything Banksy. I would say, overall, the street art scene was severely underrepresented considering the amount of galleries (over 200 i think). On top of that, there were quite a few artists stealing street art ideas and the not (one guy even made Rubik cube portraits a la space invader. go figure)
Well, here are the pictures I took. Enjoy!!

Yeah, and some Picasso, Matisse, Chagall, Dali. You know the ones you don't see on ebay 365.

Visit CHICAGO πΊπ² Street Art, Galleries, Events, by jB on May 12, 2012 1:59:00 GMT 1, You should pop into the art institute, head down to see the Anish Kapoor Bean in Millenium Park, and perhaps take a stroll down to Navy Pier. As for street art, it's been a while since living there. Couldn't help on that front. Enjoy, looks like some decent weather this week too.

Thanks for the reply! You describe more or less what I did today, except for the art institute. Have to admit i was deeply impressed by the kapoor piece, what a great attraction for the city!
Bad news is that i just found out the lichtenstein expo might not be on yet! Will see tomorrow about that..

Visit CHICAGO πΊπ² Street Art, Galleries, Events, by David Soukup on May 12, 2012 4:57:43 GMT 1, There Chicago Cultural center usually has some cool shows (across the street almost from the institute).
If you're staying downtown mostly for the show, you'll find almost nothing. It's illegal to buy spray paint in Chicago, and our former mayor started a program that buffs any kind of graffiti or street art in hours sometimes. Everytime I'm in another large city, I'm always amazed by how 'clean' downtown Chicago is. If you find a tag of some kind, it usually won't be there tomorrow.
There are a few cool installations on State and Wabash (Loop Pop-Up shows). They get artists to do installs in vacant store windows. Saw a few cool ones on Wabash/Madison area when I was shooting photos the other day.
Regarding street art, without a car, you'll be pretty hard-pressed to get to some of these spots in a day:
Banksy's 'baby carriage rolling down the stairs' piece is at corner of Peoria/Roosevelt. Roa has an awesome piece in the area too, but you'd have to look it up (Hubbard/Peoria maybe?). There's some stuff in Logan Square as well, and Nick Walker did a mural on the front of a local bar called Violet Hour (probably 300 feet south of the Damen Blue Line stop). There are a few other guys that left their mark when they came through town, but we have a city that is ridiculously hard to keep anything up for any period of time. Wicker Park (Damen Blue Line stop) is a cooler neighborhood for that kind of thing (although it's gentrified as all hell now, but there are some cool shops and bars in that area). You'll find alot of sticker art and stuff that hasn't gotten the buff yet up there.
3 Galleries that come to mind when showing any kind of cool urban art are:
Maxwell Collette Rotofugi Pawn Works
There's others, but check their websites and see what's going on.
Hope that helps.

Visit CHICAGO πΊπ² Street Art, Galleries, Events, by Deleted on May 14, 2012 3:26:31 GMT 1, Thanks for the tops and pm! Had a lovely weekend.. Found some art after all, there is a great shep paste- up wall under the viaduct near the navy pier on grand. Will post pictures when the gf uploaded them Somewhere ..
Also, i think there might be two nice ROA rats near san francisco stopon the blue line. Saw it on my way back, only half a secondnbut did not have the time to check it out. Anyone able to confirm this?
Not urban art, but the architecture in this city is amazing. If you love 1910-1960 buildings and the legacy of Mies van der Roha, you will love chicago. I was impressed!

Visit CHICAGO πΊπ² Street Art, Galleries, Events, by bmerel on Apr 10, 2013 23:54:36 GMT 1, There will be a small quantity of VIP Preview tickets to be sold as well. This will get you into the show one hour prior to the public opening. Admittance to the show will also carry a minimal ticket price at the door upon entry as well. This is NOT just an art show. There will be fine food, fine art, music and booze...LOTS of major expenses.
VIP tickets will probably be $50. General Admission tickets probably $10.

I wish you luck and appreciate your excitement, but I am already tired of hearing about this and it is not for 8 months! Posting "every now and then" as you said is not posting every day; once a month at this point would be overkill. I don't think it is your intention to make people not want to go. Without you bumping it or comments like this... we all know this thread will die a slow death.

Well, the kickstarter just became approved and went live yesterday and the blog was today. I thought both were significant. Not posting to piss anyone off. Truly. Just getting the important info out as it plays. I apologize if this show/thread has offended anyone. I assure you, that's not the intent. This is in fact exciting and only post when something important comes up. Cheers and hopefully this thread won't die....this is a fine art forum so I think this show has its place amongst everything else. Cheers and thanks to all. I promise only to post show related things!
