True, and for that reason I've made a conscious decision to stay out of the vinyl toy category - with my personality I'd need to collect them all and render me homeless.

While saving for a print eventually, these plates have a nice aesthetic to them and strong image - price isn't too bad either!

I agree about the plates.  I'm not tempted to buy but I do think they are an improvement on the endless variations of the Companion vinyl toys that he seems to churn out every couple of months.

For some strange reason, KAWS always seems very reluctant to say exactly how limited his 'limited' editions truly are.  

After all, half a million is still, strictly speaking, a limited edition release.

I would expect something around 2000. It's still a big figure to deal with logistic wise and it's a not crazy figure so it can sold-out in an hour or so with global demand.

Plates are made to be used, not displayed (except at your grandma house). So buy and enjoy it during your meals. A good way to introduce the artists to the rest of the family of your friends.
If I go for them (still hesitating), they will be used for the snacks/otsumami.

Small Lie I think is supposed to be Limited Edition, but seems to be the easiest to still get of all the recent Open Edition releases!

if it was truly limited, as per the arty definition (standard i see is below 1000-ish), you would know the number. If the number would be "low", the items would be numbered (can be done automatically).

Limited here probably means that there won't be enough for everyone, so please be on time on the website and get them while you can. Nothing to expect past the release event.
