Backdoor Banksy Prints, by risky on Apr 27, 2008 12:42:45 GMT 1, They are not part of the official run and have no value, As for the 'I can't afford the real thing','I just like the image' argument! Why not take that favorite image to a canvas print place or buy one off the idiots on e-bay. I think the real reason people buy these, is to pass them off to someone else by making them sound legit or to put on a false number or signature.(This accusation is not aimed at anyone on this board) Either way, none of the money goes back to the artist or printhouse. Why pay hundreds of pounds for a poster?

How about a million Zimbabwe Dollars? That's quite a hideous amount of money considering what it would have been worth a few years back

Backdoor Banksy Prints, by dodge on Apr 27, 2008 19:16:16 GMT 1, If anybody has any banksy backdoor prints they would be willing to sell for a realistic price I would be very interested (please pm). I agree with snakes, It's all about the image and how much you are willing to pay.
While I am lucky financially, I could not begin to justify spending 2-3k on a print and if backdoor jobbies allow me to get my hands on an image I want and I am happy to pay, where's the harm?

Backdoor Banksy Prints, by risky on Apr 27, 2008 22:24:26 GMT 1, I really don't understand, that mentality. You want to pay hundreds of pounds for something that is no better than a fake?? Seriously mate you need your head looking at. Also you can pick up REAL Banksy prints for under £1000 unsigned and a signed one from £2-3000. Where's the harm? The harm is there's alot of people on this forum trying to legitimise these prints for financial gain. The prints are dodgy,un-authorised,never meant to be in circulation, worthless posters. Don't be conned into buying these. If you like the image, get yourself a nice print made up,theres also some nice images on Banksy's website he'd like people to download and print in the shop section. The image I want argument is bollocks I'm afraid.

Backdoor Banksy Prints, by bonesy on Apr 27, 2008 22:31:46 GMT 1, It still amazes me how casually everyone in this scene accepts POWs printing of extra prints. Backdoors, replacements, gifts for friends, stacks of prints intended for tacking up at the Ghetto- theyre all the same; BS overruns on limited edition items.
From the POW website "All screen prints are produced in-house under secure conditions and strictly to the edition number stated." Really? Well than how can my damaged print #352 of 500 be replaced with another 352 of 500 if only the edition number stated (500) were produced?

No need mate, have most of them. Bought when signed prints were £150.00 and unsigned were £75.00. How much did you pay for all your stolen prints?

Well i wish I was that fortunate. Alas when they were at those prices I did not even have access to the intermerweb!
..and as for 'stolen prints' - hmmmm, look into the history of the backdoor saga and you may see that not all of them were pinched, ie. the POW promos to galleries, pin ups etc etc etc....

Pretty simple really, they print extras for when damage etc happens, you return your no.352 print, they destroy it and number another (blank) print with that number. Would you prefer them not to do this?? and as for all the backdoor prints, it is always the older prints, which back when they were produced at a cost of £30 (not £thousands like they are worth now) and extras were printed for promo use etc. They are alot more strict now though, anyone seen a backdoor LA Banksy print??
To be honest it amazes me how much people slate POW - whenever I have bought from them, they have always been helpful, friendly and not forgetting they introduced alot of people into Banksy...

Them being friendly and helpful isnt the debate. I personally do not agree with printing more than the numbered edition even to replace damages, the integrity of the print run should be first. I know Im pretty alone on this feeling and replacing damages isnt my big issue. My big issue are: that they keep the extras long after all replacements have been made; people in the past, on this board, have said POW has replaced damaged prints for them 8 months after purchase which they themselves accidentally damaged (serious BS there); that they do give unnumbered prints to "friends" (tisk, tisk, tisk); the blatant lie on their site which Ive quoted (Why lie?).

Backdoor Banksy Prints, by risky on Apr 27, 2008 23:27:26 GMT 1, Yes I was lucky and POW are a great team of people who sold affordable art to everyone. Even after people started selling the prints on for profit, they kept their prices down. A lot of people on this forum have made bundles of money from selling their prints on the secondary market and still try and knock them? Get over yourselves. If you don't like Pow ,You don't like Banksy as he's been with them from the start.
You can have your backdoor prints, but when you sell them make sure people know what they're buying. Thats my twopence worth.
Cheers

Backdoor Banksy Prints, by richy00 on Apr 28, 2008 10:40:43 GMT 1, the official run suggests a numbered or stamped print sold from the gallery... these prints are just extras that were never meant to be sold, some were just printed incase other prints were damaged, some as gifts, some as AP's, some as promo items but alot of them are screenprints that went slightly wrong and couldnt be used.. they are not official runs...

Never meant to be sold....well they were and they still are. There are hundreds of them doing the rounds. And they were sold at certain galleries a few years back. Also if you got sent a damaged print you returned it and they took a back door one numbered it the same as the damaged one and sent you it back...

ive got a backdoor WSM that looked like it was damaged in transit slightly, with the number crossed out and TEST written next to it so i assume this is what happened.

First Ive heard of one like that, interesting. So presumably it was a damage that was sent back and instead of destroying it they crossed out the number and labeled it as a test print.

Was it a gift? Can you prove this, does it have provenance? If so you have a legitimate out of edition print which is worthless, rather than a stolen print that is worthless. Welldone.
And a question for you Copyright. As an artist yourself do you condone the selling of these prints?

It still amazes me how casually everyone in this scene accepts POWs printing of extra prints. Pretty simple really, they print extras for when damage etc happens, you return your no.352 print, they destroy it and number another (blank) print with that number. Would you prefer them not to do this?? and as for all the backdoor prints, it is always the older prints, which back when they were produced at a cost of £30 (not £thousands like they are worth now) and extras were printed for promo use etc. They are alot more strict now though, anyone seen a backdoor LA Banksy print?? To be honest it amazes me how much people slate POW - whenever I have bought from them, they have always been helpful, friendly and not forgetting they introduced alot of people into Banksy... yes there were la prints on ebay that were taken from a skip at the back of his la show . They were taped to the top of the boxes the prints were in . and there was a gold flag being sold by ebay oldstreetbinraiders after the last oxford street ghetto a year before it came out
