so they are real/original prints just over runs from the numbered edition? i have tracked a few on e bay and they go for around £500 so they must be from the original runs but just not numbered or signed. I have also seen signed prints with no numbers. There was one at the last bonhams auction.

Would that be mission prints? when did POW take over? was it later than the bomb huggers and laugh now's?

Backdoor Banksy Prints, by pezlow on Apr 26, 2008 22:14:29 GMT 1, Hi. Can anyone please tell me what a back door print is. Thanks
It's a screenprint which may or may not have been made at the same time as the proper run. But of course there is no way of proving this so it has no provenance and thus no long term intrinsic value and should be treated as a poster.

Backdoor Banksy Prints, by poofly on Apr 26, 2008 22:24:37 GMT 1, Could it be that when you send back prints to POW if damaged in the post and they give you another, could this be where these come in?
Just a thought, probably a poor one but a thought nonetheless.

Backdoor Banksy Prints, by snakes on Apr 26, 2008 22:44:52 GMT 1, Thankfully I like posters. Are prints with numbers and signatures on them not just 'rich men's posters' then?
As for the quote - "no long term intrinsic value" - who cares about the value if your love is art. I love the pictures I have, therefore if they are either a poster, a print, a back door print a doodle or even a canvas it makes not a blind bit of difference as they will brighten up a wall.
But then again the reason I like my backdoor prints (or poster wanting to be) is because there is no way I could afford an HMV or MQ. But thanks to my mate in Brum I have two images that I like very much for the price of a 'Blu' print from POW. I know which I'd rather have adorning my wall!

Backdoor Banksy Prints, by GD303uk on Apr 26, 2008 23:10:52 GMT 1, Snakes does make a good point , if you like the image it doesnt really matter that much, if its back door or not, it might not have the same investment value but for all purpose it is the very same image print just without the sig, number , stamp. it could be argued that back door prints are robbing the artist as they get nothing for the sale, and could dilute the value of genuine official pieces. backdoor brummie; some of the early banksy prints where printed in birmingham the printers back door brummie made more without permission from the artist and sold them himself. in effect robbing the artist and the buyer , but as is said above if you like the image does it matter?, in the end Banksy found Ben at POW and prints got better security, i would like a backdoor print if it was all i could get , i tried to buy a monkey queen last year but was outbid, as it turned out, it sold for more than i could spend. they still have a value not as much as an official one, it suprissed me how much it went for.

Backdoor Banksy Prints, by stuey09 on Apr 27, 2008 1:10:38 GMT 1, It's a personal thing, but I don't like them. They make a mockery of the limited edition number and they are essentially knock offs.

Backdoor Banksy Prints, by pezlow on Apr 27, 2008 6:48:21 GMT 1, I don't have a massive objection to people buying then with their eyes open - like snakes does. But the problem is that when they get on ebay they may be sold to people who think they are buying a genuine banksy edition, rather than something which is essentially stolen goods.

I agree with Pez on this. If you know it's background and it isn't being presented as something it isn't I can live with backdoors. The problem is they are often misdiscribed, which led to me almost paying a fair wack for a backdoor Turf War before I was warned by someone what it really was.
