A Banksy Painting 'Self-Destructed' Sold for $1.1Million, by Coach on Oct 9, 2018 19:36:40 GMT 1, There's Art History and Forum History, I was responding to moron known Banksyhaterpontificator and arguing the point of hype versus mainstream - that a critic was mentioned was a sidebar and again history said critic was the biggest Banksy hater during his NYC BOTI month, exploiting his dislike for his own popularity. all the people who are not of your opinion are moron? What height of mind! Guys, this is just a forum where we share the same passion, avoid insults and interpretations too fast. Let's share other things
I think Hairbland was referring to the member here who goes by the name moron, rather than calling someone else a moron.

A Banksy Painting 'Self-Destructed' Sold for $1.1Million, by Lroy on Oct 9, 2018 19:57:50 GMT 1, I think everyone knows that banksy is currently marketed for the 35+ year old with money that still wears limited edition sneakers/leather jackets and DJs in Ibiza....or more likely the people who want to pretend they have that lifestyle. Is banksy just a brand now? We all know its a collective marketing blitz and calling them an old school crew by old graffiti definition is getting harder and harder. The people involved have the credibility in the community to do whatever the hell they want. The reality is it was time for banksy to say goodbye a while ago as POW pointed out should have ended 3 years ago really. But I do also realize that's like me saying all their new albums suck. They use to rule. There needs to be a coachella reunion cash out system for artists just like there is for bands. Pay everyone out of ruining something great. I can only hope that is what we've been seeing with all of these unofficial shows.
Yes it is a brand. Not a team, not a collective, but a brand ( and since years ago now ). You have to be " stamped " by his PR (Jo per example) and his website/instagram. In the contrary, this is not a " Banksy " as we are saying.
Some artworks takes time to be " approved ", some others are quicker, as this video * filmed as a professionnal trailer, mixed and mounted in the process, and just posted after : the real Banksy' s signature, the integral part, even the main one with the shredder itself, and narrated like a fairy tale ("once upon a time in 2006 ... blablabla " - no loud voice nor vocoder (as the "artisanal "one, lol, in Exit ) , but a magical and short story that could win an award ! This is Banksy.
The masterpiece that will rest in Art History is this 56' seconds Video, showing us a passage of La Comédie Humaine ( as these rich faces panicked or silly in front of the prank/shredder, and making the all movie ) and of course, we think before all to the genius Frank Capra, in particulary in La Vie est Belle ( look at this extract, " any resemblance to existing persons is coincidental " ;-)
* As these videos In Boti ( the ants, Dumbo) that were posted during the show. All the rest is " the Musical ".

A Banksy Painting 'Self-Destructed' Sold for $1.1Million, by moron on Oct 9, 2018 22:56:17 GMT 1, This would be my position as well. Jones is knowledgeable, intelligent and considered. Of equal importance is the fact he holds views I often disagree with or would strongly qualify. [Likewise with Robert Hughes and Brian Sewell when they were alive.]That is the kind of person I pay most careful attention to. No disrespect to you Met, or any other fans out there, but I think Jonathan Jones is a cunt, pardon my French. This is what he wrote a year ago about Girl With Balloon. "Britain’s best-loved artwork is a Banksy. That’s proof of our stupidity "This is what scares and depresses me about Banksy. The very lack of art in his art is what makes it popular. Real art is elusive, complex, ambiguous and often difficult. " In other words if art were easy Jonathan Jones would be out of a job. Wouldn't that be great? Link here to read more of his strawberry-faced snobbery. www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2017/jul/26/britain-artwork-banksy-art-girl-with-balloon
Jones has his lightweight moments but the days of the great art critics like Robert Hughes and Brian Sewell seem to be over.
It's a lot of lightweight marketing tat these days.
The poll voting Girl With Balloon, the nations favourite painting is one example.
It's false. It's a small poll of people who had to choose from a shortlist of 20 artworks drawn up by art editors and writers.
So it's fake to say that it is "the nations favourite painting.
"The poll was carried out to mark the launch of a new Samsung TV,"

A Banksy Painting 'Self-Destructed' Sold for $1.1Million, by moron on Oct 9, 2018 23:02:40 GMT 1, That's just post hype , hype and nothing more. Someone says it's now worth zillions of trillions because of a cheap stunt. Which proves that the whole Banksy hype and marketing machine is obsessed with money and so is Banksy. No, it's high profile in the New York Times - also known as mainstream. Even Jerry Saltz, who usually has a bug up his arse (like yourself, but he's an art critic not a small forum poster) loved it. You seem to do a lot of point scoring without actually giving your own opinion on what is so great about Banksy's latest stunt.
You prefer to refer to Jerry Saltz for some reason.
It's an art forum and I posted my own view on this event. I'm sure team Banksy welcome your efforts though.
This latest stunt is the sort of thing that would have appeared on the Jeremy Beadle show and filmed with hidden camera.
I do not see what relevance it has to art or to making Banksy art even more valuable after this stunt.
Most of the people quoted in the mainstream press about it are dealers or galleries selling Banksy works.

A Banksy Painting 'Self-Destructed' Sold for $1.1Million, by moron on Oct 9, 2018 23:15:44 GMT 1, The point of what? My point was that your condescending post spouting that an art critics point of view is worth more than anyone elses is just bollocks (to me) But maybe you're right, perhaps someone qualified can answer There's Art History and Forum History, I was responding to moron known Banksyhaterpontificator and arguing the point of hype versus mainstream - that a critic was mentioned was a sidebar and again history said critic was the biggest Banksy hater during his NYC BOTI month, exploiting his dislike for his own popularity. absolute crap. I was referring to this latest stunt by Banksy that's all and calling it a stunt for publicity which might make me a Banksy hater to you but to others it's an opinion about the publicity seeking stunt and it doesn't suit your own agenda which is probably that you met Banksy once and cannot say anything negative or seen to say anything negative publicly about his art or stunts. Even though you know i'm right on this one.
It's a cheap publicity stunt and might have got Banksy some write ups as he appears to want to be mentioned regularly in the mainstream press for any reason.
Whether the value will go up after this stunt, i doubt it. Sothebys will say anything anyway. they don't care if people believe it at the time as are known to say they did not say such and such at a later date.
It might appeal to some wealthy Banksy investors but regarding other wealthy collectors who add art to their collections. This stunt could back fire and these people not take him seriously as an artist.

A Banksy Painting 'Self-Destructed' Sold for $1.1Million, by moron on Oct 9, 2018 23:16:48 GMT 1, sotheby's video is looping since Saturday, everywhere, all the time. Everyone has a small comment to make about his work when they did not know him 15 days ago. Its popularity and rating are growing thanks to all this. And everything is built on it, from the beginning. For me, this guy is a scam. Do you think Picasso was doing his best to sell when he was at valauris or warhol at the factory? They did not need advertising to spread their art, people recognized it. Without this noise around him, it would be known only by a handful of Londoners your examples are uninformed. remind me of those that saw the birth of modern art in the 60s saying their kindergarten kid could do that. You mean the birth of contemporary art.
Modern art was born by the likes of Manet and others.

A Banksy Painting 'Self-Destructed' Sold for $1.1Million, by moron on Oct 9, 2018 23:34:19 GMT 1, I dont get your point.. we do live in a world of Social Networks.. so to say if they werent here he wouldnt exist doesnt make sense to me.. Or is it me who has missed the point? Just wondering.. sotheby's video is looping since Saturday, everywhere, all the time. Everyone has a small comment to make about his work when they did not know him 15 days ago. Its popularity and rating are growing thanks to all this. They did not need advertising to spread their art, people recognized it. Without this noise around him, it would be known only by a handful of Londoners We live in different times today from Picasso and even Warhol.
Picasso had a waiting list of clients and dealers who sold his art in the US. His pottery was very affordable in the limited editions and turned out to be a good investment long term.
Warhol did use the media for publicity. Mainly television and celebrity articles in papers and magazines showing his silver wig and posing with celebrities. He made screen prints of the rich and famous because he wanted to become as recognised and famous as they were. The approach back then was more innocent than it is today with two minute attention spans and social media and making a fast buck regardless of quality.
The Sothebys stunt gained attention mainly due to social media. Newspapers print sad dog stories every week or quirky stories so adding this Sothebys stunt gained some retweets etc for them.
If Banksy had the artwork artifically bid up to the record price before being shredded. I can see investors losing confidence in the real value of his art. Sothebys will have to come clean eventually.

A Banksy Painting 'Self-Destructed' Sold for $1.1Million, by JJN on Oct 10, 2018 2:44:45 GMT 1, So many conspiracy theories, insults & drivel above but just enough insightful gems to, unfortunately, keep me reading...
What if it Wasnt a marketing stunt and was instead a magnificent piece of performance Art - a statement on the commodification & ludicrous values we ascribe to things we love & move us to feel something (Art).
Actually, some of the insults are quite witty & entertaining.

A Banksy Painting 'Self-Destructed' Sold for $1.1Million, by ca on Oct 10, 2018 3:56:17 GMT 1, personally, I'm getting tired of it all. Don't get me wrong, I thought it was somewhat clever and classic Banksy after seeing it but now that every media and person around the world are reflecting on it as if it was the best thing since sliced bread it has reached a point where I find it quite annoying tbh. Can we move on or we're that desperate for decent art?

it is true that this subject is treated since Sunday in the miscellaneous news section ( fairs-divers ) of the french newspapers as The daily or the Sun and that all the makers or listeners of gossips ( have a look on Twitter , such a shame this Twitter ) are aware of this: they only retain the 1500000000 quids (so-called) gone in tatters ( in smoke - en fumée ) Lazy this morning on my loo ...

Moron, moron, moron ..... you only have it in store, you are at the limit of your reasoning? difficult to argue with a disrespectful child who thinks he knows everything. Can you admit that your truth may not be the truth and that people may not be of your opinion? I prefer to look at the thread from far enough and keep my energy at more essential things

what happened to Warhols face, he look like a seventy year old who had plastic surgery. Did he lie about his age or is it due to heroin?
