Most significant Banksy works sold are done off market (not via auction or galleries) so the real price will never be public knowledge.

That's where Banksy belongs IMO. I think he may even surpass them. Especially Warhol. His legacy will be a powerful one.

In collectability sense as high end collectors like limited factors and as less artworks out there that warhol is a bonus.
Also seen as leading pioneer of new generation of urban stencil art although now branched out in other areas of art.
But sales for now are definately more prolonged rather than being snapped up as soon as listed in the past.

Why do you think Warhol is so far above Banksy?

Where to start as TODAY there is simply NO comparison. Sales aside (we will come back to that), Warhol is attributed for the vast majority of styles and mediums used today by so many of his contemporaries, including Banksy, that it's fair/safe to say that none of them may exist without his influence. Longevity wise, he has only been gone for slightly more than three decades, but is considered as one of the greatest of all time and has had more retrospective museum shows than nearly anyone in history after such a short period of time. Sales wise, his work has broken the $100M ceiling which puts him in the company of DaVinci, Klimt, Picasso...you get the picture and if his iconic soup can set owned by the MoMa was ever to hit the auction block it may very well set an all time record, or so the experts suggest. All of that being said, I’m not suggesting Banksy isn’t brilliant as I 100% love his work and agree that he is, but to compare him to or ask “why do you think Warhol is above Banksy” is silly and uninformed, however we are all entitled to our opinions. He very well may be “above him” as you put it at some point in history, but he’s not today...time will determine that. It’s important to remember that just because an art collector in one of the scene’s of Banksy’s movie says “he’s better than all of the rest” doesn’t make it so 😉. The point from the discussion above is that at $120000-$150000 one is in a territory where buying a signed Warhol print is part of the choice set. To me that would appear to set a ceiling on price with very high probability.

For sale I have my Banksy Girl with Balloon unsigned print 70 x 50 cm edition 600. Unframed, in very good condition and currently stored in archival acid-free sleeve. 

The print is registered in my name and address and comes with Pest Control COA.

I'm the 2nd owner. Bought from the original owner via a UK-based gallery (where the print was on consignment). Provenance in the form of letter from original owner and invoice/receipt from gallery will be provided to the buyer.


Based in Europe and prefer a face to face transaction.

Will be travelling to London in early to mid October and could potentially deliver the print if a deal is agreed.

It's was not an original but the same screenprint as the unsigned and signed, I agree it was not from the edition of 600 and did have a heart. So most likely a gift print to a friend or as suggested a charity print, a little less desirable to me but someone liked the tiny heart as opposed to the edition number. I certainly wouldn't pay a premium on the contrary. I would like to see the Pest Control certificate, I would think it would state gift print.
I would be happy with one like this one in the sale thread from the edition.

Possibly the only one with a heart but Sothebys state its just a proof print. Left over I guess and gifted. Anyway here is a photo of the proof print with heart that sold for £106k and a here is a photo of the edition print that sold £63k yesterday at Christies. Then of course you have the signed Girl With Balloon that sold for £200k, so the signature cost £140k.
I think unsigned GWBs have a way to run, given the discrepancy in price. And I haven't even mentioned the gold VIP GWB that went for £400k!!!
