Banksy • Girl With Red Balloon Print, by JFCC on Feb 8, 2023 10:48:04 GMT 1, I have been offered two of late. They were not in perfect condition and on each occasion the buyers were expecting full auction price of £115k and £128k.
To me a fair price to a buy in the private market is £100k. This price is based on paying the mid point between the seller and buyer would pay at auction, regardless of the market condition.
The last few (six) auctions have seen a consistency in prices. The average being around £114k for the buyer and £85k that the seller received, so hence a fair price being about £100k.
My advice is if you are confident then buy privately. Get a verification from Pest Control, the seller should not mind using this process, if they do walk away. Also make sure the seller has a COA and buy one that you can see out of the frame. Make sure it has no creases, blemishes, has not been stuck to a board, does not have fading from where it was window framed...if any of that walk away there are plenty around so be choosey!
If you are going to a Gallery do not be afraid to bid, offer £100k (providing it is up for more than that and they are typically £125k - £135K today) as they will normally have it on consignment and quite often the seller will accept much lower. Also do not accept a Gallery certificate of authenticity, they are completely worthless, only accept a Pest Control one. Just a few thoughts and good luck buying one!

Banksy • Girl With Red Balloon Print, by Charlie Bronson on Feb 11, 2023 19:23:24 GMT 1, I’m about to buy a GWB; narrowed down to just a few sellers. Looking for some input from you guys in regards to price in relation to condition. Firstly, what’s a fair price for one in good condition(slight burn on edges)? Second, what’s fair price on a pristine print? This is a big purchase for me; I’ve been coming to this website for almost a decade, daily, and as a result I value your thoughts, opinions and input, and would greatly appreciate it.

Banksy • Girl With Red Balloon Print, by High Contrast on Feb 11, 2023 20:00:53 GMT 1, I personally wouldn’t spend over £90k on one at the moment.
One with some minimal burn ( which will probably fade if you float it in a frame over time) I’d pay £85k
I personally wouldn’t go for it if it’s more Matt burned. Will be hard to sell on if you ever need to

Banksy • Girl With Red Balloon Print, by Love Is In The Air on Feb 11, 2023 20:11:06 GMT 1, I’ve never dropped this much on a print but have bought and sold some Banksys and I would say if you can spend a bit more to get one without Matt burn I would do it. I say this just because if you ever need to sell it this will make things smoother/quicker. So totally agree with High Contrast. Also if spending £50k+ on any print I would aim to get one with as good as condition as possible. Pretty obvious thing to say but if 5k more gets you a much better one it’s 5% extra initial cost but just long term puts you in a much better position. Good luck with the purchase, am very jealous!

Banksy • Girl With Red Balloon Print, by dotdot on Feb 11, 2023 20:20:03 GMT 1, a few words.
the prints you've seen....
how white is it ?
how red is it ?
what is the paper like ?
corners ?
rear of the print ? ... and is it framed , by whom and ... everything else that goes with a frame / sun fade lines etc.
(have you actually looked at these things in BRIGHT DAYLIGHT ?) tungsten will not cut it in this regard , btw. led ? NO.
Did you plenty of take notes ? they will all be different.
...the person or gallery / source - what are they like ? any signs of life (useful) / death (can we do it now..!) ?
coa ? is whose name is it ?
..there you go...
oh and price circa ? £100k , for all the trimmings - (ie you feel safe and are being taken care of)
if you see exactly what you want to buy - you'll know it !
If that box is not ticked.. you will remember this ... in years to come.
one last , perhaps ironic , question - are you planning to frame it and hang on the wall ? consider insurance.
..now put some loud music on and the kettle... chill. (if you drink whiskey - pour a wee glass and savour..)
..
ps - no, i don't work for any galleries and am not affiliated with anyone.

Banksy • Girl With Red Balloon Print, by cemltz on Feb 11, 2023 20:40:06 GMT 1, Previous posters haver pretty much got it covered. I would be thinking £100k for well above average condition, add maybe 10% if pristine.
Not knowing your individual situation or circumstances, it is often the case that making compromises to save money is not a great long term strategy. Whatever it is that you want, get that. Worth waiting for and paying for. If you don't, rather than really enjoying the piece, it's the little things that you settled for that you will see every time you look at it.
For me, I actually don't care that much about condition, so not an issue. These things were basically glorified posters when initially sold, and many spent some portion of their existence being treated as such: tacked or taped to walls, rolled up, etc. Now, I'm not ignorant of resale value, so I take all of that in to consideration when I price the works. Guitars and old school street art, I like to see that they have "lived a bit", so I buy the rough ones.

Banksy • Girl With Red Balloon Print, by robo on Feb 11, 2023 21:45:00 GMT 1, Let the buyer enjoy his upcoming purchase. The above posts are just sour grapes cos they’re not buying a £100k Banksy.
I would mention that though you want quality, a lot can be addressed by a good conservator. If you have photos of any issues they can give you an idea of if they’re fixable or not. Eg most matt burn can be washed out. Fading due to sunlight can’t be reversed however.

Banksy • Girl With Red Balloon Print, by mojo on Feb 11, 2023 22:11:42 GMT 1, I'd definitely go for the print in near pristine condition, it's an investment so buy the best that you can! As for what you will pay, that largely depends on what the seller is asking, there is generally some wiggle room however many of the people talking down prices are the people trying to buy them!...and if you go too low the seller will just hold or sell to someone else. Check out the provenance and COA with PC before paying and if possible meet up with the seller in person and if all is well go for a good lunch to celebrate

‘Get some class’ suggests you’re talking about aesthetics but talk of ‘markets’ and ‘wanksy money evaporating’ hints you’re commenting more on credibility on the investment.

Banksy • Girl With Red Balloon Print, by Charlie Bronson on Feb 11, 2023 23:40:35 GMT 1, Thanks for the input, guys. Very useful, insightful info and input; please continue to chime in, it’s much appreciated. Here’s the condition report for the one in “good condition”. FWIW, the price for the pristine one is £18k more than the price for the good condition one. Here’s a pic of the good condition one(ignore the black mark covering the number). I can’t see any burn on the edges. It’s obviously there, because it’s stated in the condition report, but I’m not able to see it in the pic. Perhaps my eyes aren’t what they used to be. You guys see edge burn?
Good condition; The paper shows a slight colour differential along all four edges with most of the paper slightly paler in tone than narrow double-bands along the edges. This is thought to relate to slight fading of the paper colour where it was left exposed to light by the differently sized apertures of two different window-mounts. Approximate width of band: top 15mm; bottom 6mm; left 9-12mm; right 9-12mm.

Banksy • Girl With Red Balloon Print, by JW on Feb 12, 2023 0:05:44 GMT 1, Full disclosure - I did reach out to Charlie Bronson as I have an unsigned GWB I may look to sell over the next 6-12 months (and sorry for not replying back - life keeps getting in the way at the moment).
I can honestly see the edge burn, but it's really not bad and the print looks in great shape otherwise assuming the back is the same.
If you plan to float mount it you may be othered. Once you see it, it's all you'll see. But if you mount it, happy days.

Banksy collectors are hugely anal on condition so better not to give buyers any excuse to pass when you come to resell.
